About Flexibility & Deep Stretches

In my classes, we don't force your body into a pose. We use simple props like cotton straps and foam blocks to bridge the gap between where your body is today and where you want it to be. This approach ensures you feel a deep, effective stretch in your hamstrings and spine without the risk of strain. It is a 'work-in' where we go slow, focusing on alignment first, so you can build real mobility instead of just imitating a shape.

Why Deep Stretches Matter

Many of us carry our daily stress in our hips and shoulders. If you feel tight or stiff, it is often not just your muscles, but your nervous system holding onto tension. My approach to flexibility is rooted in the idea of a 'samadhaan' (solution), where we use breathwork to tell the body it is safe to let go.

Did you know that forcing a stretch can actually cause your muscles to tighten up in defense? This is why we focus on 'active release' techniques. Instead of just pulling on a limb, we use specific breathing patterns to signal your parasympathetic nervous system to relax, allowing you to go deeper into postures like Paschimottanasana or Pigeon Pose safely.

How We Practice

I run these sessions at my studio in Sunder Vihar, Paschim Vihar. We work on a mix of:

  • Hip Mobility: Releasing the stored emotional and physical stress in the hips.
  • Spinal Flexibility: Counteracting the effects of long hours at a desk.
  • Safe Alignment: Using props, manual adjustments, and spotting to ensure you don't hurt yourself while aiming for advanced poses like backbends.

Whether you are struggling with a stiff back or want to improve your athletic performance, the goal is simple. We build a 'chhoti-si aadat' (small habit) of daily practice. You do not need to be flexible to start yoga; you just need to show up and breathe.
