About Grading: Earn Your Next Belt

A grading is not a casual test. You will be on the floor for two to three hours, demonstrating your Kihon (basics), Ido Geiko (moving basics), and belt-specific Kata. We also test your fitness—pushups, squats, and sit-ups—and require you to prove your fighting spirit through rounds of Kumite. You earn the rank; I only verify that you are ready to hold it.

When you step into the grading circle at our Koramangala dojo, the environment changes. This is the moment where your months of training in Kihon, Kata, and Kumite are measured. You cannot hide in a grading. My panel and I watch your breathing, your stance, and your spirit. We look for technical precision, but we also look for Zanshin, the state of total awareness.

Whether you are aiming for your first yellow belt or preparing for advanced ranks, the standards remain strict. Fitness is non-negotiable; if you cannot complete the required pushups and squats, the technique does not matter. This is why our students value their belts—they are never given, only earned.

Once you pass, your rank is registered with the International Budo Karate Organization. If you are ready to stop training and start testing, reach out to register for the next session.
