Judo Training in Delhi: Techniques & Dojo Drills
Maidan is where we build champions, not just athletes. See how we train on the mat with discipline and real technique.
Here is a clear demonstration of a Judo throw being practiced by one of my students. We focus on proper form and balance to execute moves effectively and safely.
A typical training session in the dojo where students practice their stances and kicks. Repetition and practice are key to mastering the art of Judo.
This is just the beginning. A group of students works on conditioning drills on the mat. Every training session is about pushing your limits and getting stronger.
Footwork is the foundation of good Judo. Here, my students are practicing movement drills to improve their agility, balance, and reaction time on the mat.
We always start or end our sessions with proper stretching to improve flexibility and prevent injuries. Here, the class is doing seated stretches together.
I often train alongside my students to guide them. In this clip, we are doing floor exercises like leg raises and planks to build core strength, which is vital for Judo.
About Inside the Dojo: Techniques & Drills
Before you throw anyone, you must learn to fall. We start every new student with Ukemi because safe falling is the foundation of every strong judoka. You will not find AC comforts in our Kingsway Camp dojo, but you will find a serious, mat-focused environment where you build the balance and reaction speed required for real-world self-defense.
My approach is simple: maidan mein aa jao (come to the field). The dojo is a place for hard work, not relaxation.
Core Training Structure
We break down the art of Judo into three essential pillars:
- Ukemi (Safe Falling): Before you learn to attack, you learn to protect your body. This minimizes injury risk and builds confidence.
- Nage-waza (Throws): We focus on mechanics, not strength. You will learn how to use an opponent's momentum against them, practicing fundamental moves like O-goshi (hip throw) with high repetition.
- Ne-waza (Ground Control): This is where you learn to pin, hold, and dominate an opponent on the mat.
The 'Desi' Approach
Unlike commercial gyms, we keep things raw. My students train on standard EVA foam mats in a facility focused on ventilation and space, not luxury. Whether you are a beginner or a competitive athlete, the intensity is the same.
For those preparing for police recruitment or national tournaments, we add Randori (live sparring) sessions. This is where the theory turns into reality. We follow IJF-style scoring rules for competitors, but for the general student, the goal is simple: self-defense capability and improved physical discipline.
We also incorporate traditional conditioning. You will see us doing calisthenics, gymnastic rolls, and outdoor stamina drills. If you are ready to put in the hours, come ready to sweat.
