I use props not as crutches, but as tools for mechanical precision. They help you decompress your spine, correct your alignment, and restore the flow of energy in your body.

Here, you see the intensity of the work. It takes three people to help this student achieve a straight spine, yet he feels he is fit. This is why precision is everything; without it, you are just wasting your 'Pran Shakti' and reinforcing bad habits.

This is not a relaxation pose; it is an active, supported inversion using chairs. This setup allows the spine to lengthen and the chest to open, calming the nervous system and improving circulation without any pressure on the neck.

Using the wall ropes for support in this seated pose allows the student to lift and open the chest and shoulders. This is crucial for creating space for the lungs and heart, which is the foundation of good health and energy.

Here, a student uses a rod and weights to learn the correct action of the arms and shoulders. These props provide feedback, teaching the body to engage the right muscles and create stability and length, which is essential for healing.

With my hands-on guidance, this student is learning to open her shoulders and extend her spine using a stool and a belt. This supported forward bend creates traction in the spine, relieving pressure and stiffness.

This is a supported headstand, or Sirsasana, where two assistants and I ensure the student's alignment is perfect. This pose is the king of asanas, but it must be done with absolute precision to be beneficial, not harmful.

Look at the focus and smiles. Here, I am assisting a student in a supported backbend, using a stool, blocks, and ropes. This setup allows for a deep opening of the chest and spine, which is incredibly therapeutic and emotionally releasing.

This student is performing a variation of Parsvakonasana with the support of a stool, ropes, and assistants. This level of support ensures the pose is healing, not straining, creating length and space in the entire side body.

This gentleman is using a specialized wooden prop, the 'horse', to work on his leg and hip alignment. Such props, invented by Guruji, allow us to isolate and correct specific misalignments that are the root cause of pain.

Here, a student uses the wall ropes to decompress her cervical spine. This is a simple yet powerful technique to relieve neck tension and stiffness, a common problem in our modern, gadget-filled lives.

About The Iyengar Method in Action: Props & Precision

When you step into my studio, you might be surprised to see chairs, ropes, and belts everywhere. These are not props for comfort. They are tools for mechanical precision. If you cannot reach your toes, it is not because you are simply unfit, it is because your spine is compressed and your energy is restricted. I use these devices to create the exact space your joints need to function correctly. This is the difference between blindly stretching and intelligent healing. My method forces you to confront your specific physical limitations, such as a blocked armpit or a misaligned hip, and fix them with engineering-like accuracy rather than guessing your way through a pose.
