More Than a Gym: Our Training Culture
We aren't just here to fill mats or sell memberships. We are here to grind, study, and build something real. At IJJ, you earn every stripe.
Jiu-Jitsu is a deliberate and detailed study. Here, our students are gathered around a phone, breaking down footage from a roll. This is the intellectual curiosity we foster.
This is Hiro, one of our most dedicated students. His discipline and refusal to quit, even when injured, is an inspiration to everyone at the institute. Be like Hiro.
A photo with Robert Degle outside our institute. We are proud to be recognized as a hub for high-level, intelligent grappling in India.
Slap, bump, roll. This is the ritual of respect and readiness that starts every roll on our mats. It signifies a partnership in training.
Belts are not given here; they are earned through dedication and hard work. This was a surprise promotion from Professor Yuri Simoes, a moment that shows our commitment to authentic progress and recognizing the labor our students put in.
The evening class crew after some good rolls. This is our family, showing up day after day to put in the work.
Our evening batch, a mix of men and women, beginners and experienced practitioners, all training together.
About More Than a Gym
Belts here are never handed out to boost retention or satisfy ego. They are earned through consistent attendance, technical proficiency, and time spent on the mat. Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned grappler, you will find the same standard of rigorous, analytical training. We do not offer shortcuts, just a clean, honest environment to test your mettle.
A Different Approach to Training
When we started this institute, we wanted to build a place where the work actually mattered. We are not interested in the commercialized fitness scene where results are promised overnight. Instead, we focus on the Caio Terra Association methodology, which prioritizes technical precision over brute force. We break down complex movements, analyze footage, and ensure every student understands the 'why' behind the technique.
The Reality of Our Mats
Don't expect air conditioning or fancy amenities. You will find industrial fans, high ceilings, and top-tier jigsaw mats. This is an industrial setting designed for one purpose: training. We value grit over comfort. If you are looking for a place to hide, this is not it. We are a squad—from our Strong Saturday group to our competitive fighters—everyone is here to push each other.
Who We Are
We train in both Gi and No-Gi because adaptability is key. Our classes, whether morning or evening, are designed to build a complete grappler. We offer:
- Structured Fundamentals: For those stepping on the mats for the first time.
- Advanced Concepts: For blue belts and above to dissect the game.
- Women-Only Classes: A supportive, practical environment run by our own female coaches.
- Kids Program: Building focus and coordination, not just trophies.
Everything we do is about long-term growth. If you are ready to stop looking for the easy way and start putting in the hours, you belong with us in Sadashiva Nagar.
Institute of Jiu-Jitsu
I'm Rohit. I didn't build this place to chase memberships or hand out belts for show. I built it for people who want to understand the mechanics of grappling and put in the time to get better. If you want to train hard and learn properly, you belong on our mats.
