My Story and Pottery Philosophy

Pottery is how I process memories and find peace. This is the story behind my work, the mountains in my heart, and why I embrace every imperfection in the clay.

My maker's mark, HBM for Handmade by Malvika. This brand has been a nearly 10-year journey of starting, stopping, and finding my way back. This isn't the end, it's just the beginning again.

A short introduction from me. I talk about how I try to bring a little bit of nature, mountains, and flowers into the pieces that I make.

A Kabir doha that resonates deeply with me and my relationship with clay. It speaks of the conversation between the earth and the potter, a cycle of shaping and being shaped.

A quote from Franz Kafka that I love: "By believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we create it." This is how I feel about every piece I pull from a lump of clay.

About My Story & Philosophy

I don't aim for perfect, symmetrical pottery. When you hold my work, you might find a slightly wobbly rim or a thumbprint left in the glaze. That is intentional. It is my way of keeping the process slow and the stories alive, reminding us that there is beauty in the oops moments of crafting.

I started with simple sketches in my notebook, not knowing that a decade later, I would be here, covered in clay and finding my peace. My work is not just about making vases or bowls. It is about preserving memories. Whether it is the Houses on Cliff series that brings the mountains into your living room or trinket bowls featuring tiny animals, every piece carries a bit of my story.

People often ask why I do not use molds to make things faster. The answer is simple. I love the mess. I love the fact that no two pieces are identical. When I am trimming a vase or painting a badge, I am not just creating an object. I am pouring my love for nature, old movies, and my Nani’s garden into the clay. Yes, sometimes things crack in the kiln. Toh yeh toh hona hi tha (it happens). I have learned the art of letting go, and I believe those flaws are what make your piece uniquely yours.

If you are an old soul who loves slow days and things made with real stories, you are in the right place. My studio is a space where I mix a little philosophy with clay. Whether you are looking for a statement vase for your home or a custom piece that tells your own story, I am here to shape it with you.
