Finding Flow in Clay: My Handmade Ceramics Journey

byShruti JhaveriRetreats in North GoaView full gallery

I believe art is about stillness meeting flow. My ceramic journey is a testament to that, a practice of patience, imperfection, and finding joy in the mess.

From spinning clay to shaping stories. Here I am with some of my first ceramic pieces. They hold moments where I struggled, smiled, and slowly found the flow. Something new and imperfect, but full of heart.

A closer look at the blue and white ceramic bowls and cups I created. The dripping glaze was a lesson in letting go of control and embracing the beautiful, unpredictable nature of the materials.

I love the contrast of the deep blue against the white clay. Each of these handmade bowls has its own unique pattern, a small universe of splashes and drips.

My finished ceramic pieces, finding their place on the shelf at home. Seeing them alongside other meaningful objects reminds me of the joy found in learning and creating with my hands.

About this collection

Working with clay on the wheel taught me something no canvas could, learning how to let go. My blue and white ceramic pieces are intentionally imperfect. The dripping glaze you see is not a mistake, it is a practice in embracing the unpredictable nature of the kiln. Each bowl is a small, quiet study in patience that reminds me to breathe and just be.

For years, my artistic focus was on textured painting and layered paper. Transitioning to pottery felt like a natural shift toward something more grounded. There is an undeniable intimacy in touching wet clay that shifts and changes under your hands.

Why I Choose Ceramics

I treat my pottery sessions as a meditative ritual. When I am at the wheel, I cannot force the shape. I have to listen to the clay. If I push too hard, it collapses. This dynamic has become a vital part of my practice, teaching me that control is often an illusion.

The Blue and White Series

The color palette here is deeply personal. I love the contrast of deep blue against the raw white clay. The glazing process is where I find the most freedom. Instead of painting a fixed design, I allow the glaze to drip and settle naturally. It results in patterns that mimic water or shifting clouds. No two pieces are ever identical, and that is exactly the point.

What You Will Find

My collection includes hand-thrown bowls, cups, and sculptural vessels. These are not factory-made items. They hold the marks of my fingers and the rhythm of the wheel. Whether you are looking for a unique piece for your home or simply want to understand the process behind my work, I welcome you to reach out. We can talk about custom commissions or simply the joy of creating something with your own hands.
