Handcrafted Ceramic Art & Sculptural Pieces
A journey through my studio. From bold sculptural forms to the quiet process at the wheel, these pieces capture the joy and imperfection of slow-made clay.
This stoneware cup, with a handle inspired by the feminine form, is part of my 'Erotic Cups' series. It challenges traditional ideas of tableware and celebrates boldness and the origins of life.
The potter's wheel is a meditative space. This is a look at the process of throwing a large vessel, shaping the clay as it finds its form through motion and pressure.
Raku firing is a dance with fire. Here you can see the intense moment a piece is pulled glowing from the kiln, ready to be transformed by smoke and rapid cooling.
My studio is filled with Moon Jars waiting for the final firing. I love watching how the changing light plays across their surfaces throughout the day, each one telling a different story.
This piece explores our connection to the things we use daily. The hand-pinched cup features a figurative sculpture clinging to its side, a commentary on supervision and dependence.
An artist must embrace mistakes to create something new. This is my philosophy: taking on challenges is essential, no matter your age or experience. Main toh bahut karta hoon.
Centering the clay is the first and most important step in wheel throwing. It requires focus and a connection with the material, setting the foundation for the entire piece.
The final result of a Raku firing on a leaf-shaped platter. The intense process creates this beautiful, unpredictable iridescent finish, making the piece truly one of a kind.
About Featured
My work is about finding joy in the mud. Every piece, whether it's a functional tea bowl or a sculptural Moon Jar, carries the texture of my fingers and the unpredictable kiss of the fire. You will notice that no two items are the same, as each bears the mark of slow, deliberate creation and the beauty of small, intentional mistakes.
From the raw intensity of Raku firing to the delicate balance of Korean-inspired Moon Jars, this collection represents the breadth of my studio practice in Delhi. I believe that art should challenge you. That is why my 'Erotic Cups' feature bold, sculptural handles that defy standard tableware shapes. I work with high-fired stoneware, ensuring these pieces are not just for display but can hold the weight of daily use.
Whether you are drawn to the figurative sculptures that explore the human form or the large-scale floor vases that anchor a room, my approach remains the same: embrace the mistakes. If you are looking to commission a piece, I work closely with you to bring a specific vision to life, ensuring the glaze, form, and finish align with your space. My studio in Jona Pur is a place where I constantly experiment, taking the philosophy of 'clay with joy' into every project. If a piece in this gallery speaks to you, or if you have a wild idea you want to build, reach out and let's talk.
The Potter's Life
I am Suvajit. Clay called me from Howrah to Santiniketan, and now it keeps me busy in my Delhi studio. I don’t follow trends; I follow the clay, playing with fire and chance to create forms that feel alive, imperfect, and human.
