At Edifice, sustainability is not an add-on, it is our foundation. We use data-driven frameworks to create climate-responsive spaces that prioritize efficiency, occupant well-being, and long-term ecological balance.

Our design process is guided by seven key sustainability goals. These pillars, from site context to materials and energy, form a comprehensive framework that ensures every project is environmentally responsible and future-ready.

Efficiency begins with smart design. We prioritize passive strategies like building orientation, natural ventilation through shaded corridors, and green facades to reduce energy consumption before implementing active systems.

We developed the Design Sustainability Matrix as a tool to transform the approach to sustainable design. It empowers architects and developers to measure and improve a project's environmental performance from the earliest stages.

We offer our Design Sustainability Matrix as an open-access tool for the industry. By downloading it, any designer can calculate their project's sustainability quotient and identify areas for improvement.

The process is simple: input key project data to receive a sustainability score. This allows teams to track progress and optimize designs to meet environmental goals and enhance long-term building performance.

Understanding the site and context is a key part of our ethos. A thorough assessment of the landscape ensures a responsible and harmonious fit between nature and the built form.

The "Office in a Verandah" in Goa is defined by its large, sheltering roof and laterite base, designed to withstand and celebrate the region's heavy rainfall. The building sits comfortably in its lush, hilly landscape.10
For the Indian Oil Tanking Ltd. office in Sohar, Oman, I used a simple palette of stucco and wooden screens to respond to the desert climate. The design balances the need for shade with the desire for natural light and views.
This facade features operable wooden louvers and concrete forms, allowing users to modulate sunlight and airflow. This is a low-tech, high-impact strategy I use to create comfortable and energy-efficient buildings.
The shadow of a palm tree plays across the facade of the Sohar office. The wooden screen, or 'mashrabiya', is a modern interpretation of a traditional Islamic architectural element, providing privacy and shade while allowing ventilation.
