Behind the Decks: My Live DJ Setup
Seeing the energy behind the console is one thing, but feeling it on the dance floor is where the magic happens. Here is a look at my setup and live flow.
A few moments captured from my DJ console during PIDC Season 12. You can see me getting into the groove, cueing up the next track, and even grabbing the Guiro to play along.
Focused and feeling the flow at the Goa International Dance Congress. Finding that perfect track to keep the energy high is what it's all about.
Here I am with my Guiro at the Kolkata Salsa Weekend. Adding live percussion to my DJ sets is one of my favorite ways to interact with the music and the dancers.
Holding the tools of the trade. This Guiro and scraper come with me to every gig, ready to add that live, authentic Afro-Latin sound.
A smile for the camera between tracks at GIDC. I genuinely love what I do, and I think it shows.
My official DJ poster for the Pune International Dance Congress. I'm known for bringing my passion for social dancing directly into my music selection.
About Behind the Decks
It is not just about mixing tracks for me. You will often see me grabbing my Guiro or cowbell to add live percussion on top of the rhythm. This helps me bridge the gap between a recorded track and the live energy of dancers on the floor, keeping the groove authentic to the roots of Salsa and Bachata.
When I play, I am looking for that connection with the dancers. My sets are built for both 'On 1' and 'On 2' dancers, carefully selecting tracks that keep the pulse high without going into commercial filler. Whether I am at a big festival or an intimate studio social, my goal is to make the music feel like a conversation.
To bring this energy to your event, I typically use a portable Pioneer DDJ controller and my MacBook Pro. I do not provide the house sound system, so I will need to patch into your venue's mixer via RCA to XLR. I arrive 45 minutes early for a sound check to ensure everything is balanced, especially since I layer in live percussion throughout the night. If you are planning a private party, I can also handle basic MC announcements and lead a few line-dancing sessions to get non-dancers onto the floor.
DJ Jude
I am Jude, and I honestly just want to see people dance. Music is my passion, and being behind the console is about helping you find your groove and keeping the energy flowing from the first track to the last.
