Bharatanatyam Dance Classes in Bengaluru
Rooted in Natyashastra, my classes at Kalāmārga blend rigorous training in adavus with the joy of expression for all ages.
A proud moment with my students at our annual 'Nrityarpanam' showcase. I believe in giving dancers, even the youngest ones, the opportunity to perform on a professional stage with live music. You can see a mix of beginner and intermediate students here, sharing their art.
This is the official invitation for our student showcase, a culmination of months of dedicated practice. Events like these are central to my teaching method at Kalāmārga, building confidence and performance skills in every dancer.
Taking the art of Bharatanatyam to schools and communities is a passion of mine. Here I am with a wonderful group of students at a school in Arandkheda, sharing the joy and discipline of Indian classical dance.
About Kalāmārga: My School of Dance
I believe students should not just learn steps to recorded tracks. Every performance at Kalāmārga features a full live ensemble—vocalists, mridangam, flute, and veena. Learning to dance alongside musicians is what turns a student into a performer, helping them understand the nuances of Talam and rhythm in a way a playlist never can.
My Teaching Philosophy
At Kalāmārga, or 'The Path of Art', I view dance as bhakti. My curriculum is built on a foundation of azhutham (groundedness) and the classical grammar of Bharatanatyam. Whether you are a beginner taking your first steps or a senior student diving into the 108 Karanas, my goal is to guide you through the theory and practice of the Natyashastra.
What to Expect
- Small Batch Sizes: I limit my batches to 10-15 students. This allows me to give individual attention to posture, mudras, and abhinaya, ensuring you aren't just one face in a crowd.
- Theory & Practice: My classes go beyond physical training. We integrate Sanskrit slokas and art history into our sessions, so you understand the 'why' behind every movement.
- Performance Focus: You will not spend all your time in a studio. I prepare my students for stage showcases like Nrityarpanam. This gives you the chance to gain real-world experience, build stage confidence, and understand the dynamic between a dancer and a live orchestra.
Course Structure
- Foundation & Intermediate: Held at Dha at Dhaatu Puppet Theatre or Mandala Cultural Centre. We focus on basic steps (adavus) and Talam.
- Rasa Rahasya: A specialized one-year immersion for advanced students covering aesthetics, choreography, and the 108 Karanas.
- Private Mentorship: One-on-one sessions if you need specific corrections on Nritta or custom choreography for solo presentations.
Dance is a continuous journey. Whether you are coming to Mandala Cultural Centre for classes or exploring our advanced theory modules, my door is open to anyone who wants to learn with sincerity and a little bit of maja (fun).
