Bharatanatyam is a journey we share together. Whether you are building your foundation or preparing for the stage, our school focuses on rhythm, expression, and the joy of live performance.

Gearing up for "Nrutyollasa," our annual day celebration. This video shows students of different age groups rehearsing on stage, feeling the space, and preparing for their performance.

The happy faces of children, parents, and myself after a successful annual day. These events are a celebration of our entire Chithkala family and the culmination of a year's hard work.

नमस्कार. Here are my students from the Chithkala School of Dance, inviting you to our performance at the Aharshi dance festival. It is wonderful to see them take the lead in representing our school.

About this collection

We pay close attention to your physical well-being. Our Basavanagudi studio features traditional Red Oxide flooring, specifically chosen to reduce impact on your knees and joints during rigorous Nritta practice. With small group sizes of 8 to 12 students, you receive individual posture correction that helps you learn safely while mastering the finer points of our syllabus.

Our Approach to Bharatanatyam

We believe that Bharatanatyam is not just a series of steps but a continuous dialogue between the student, the teacher, and the art form. At Chithkala School of Dance, we follow the Kalakshetra styling, taking you from the initial Adavus (footwork) to a full, expressive Margam (repertoire). My teaching style seeks that balance between traditional discipline and the fresh energy today's dancers bring.

The Learning Experience

Our sessions integrate theory with practice. You will learn Viniyoga (hand gestures), Talam (rhythm), and the history behind the movements. We hold twice-weekly sessions, ensuring that your progress remains steady without feeling overwhelmed. We also place a strong emphasis on musicality; you will learn to understand Carnatic music so that every movement you make on stage has depth and meaning.

Performance Opportunities

We believe every student deserves the thrill of a live performance. Our school calendar is marked by our annual events, 'Nruthya Sambrahma' and 'Nrutyollasa'. These are not just recitals, but platforms where students from different age groups come together to share the stage. Whether it is a small group performance or a solo, these events are where you truly learn to feel the space and command an audience.

For senior students, there are opportunities to join the Chithkala Ensemble for professional-level productions, allowing you to experience the rigors and joys of working with a live musical orchestra. We are here to guide you, whether you are taking your first step in the studio or preparing for your Arangetram.
