Agility and Speed Drills for Kabaddi
To rule the mat, you need lightning-fast reflexes and explosive speed. We train on the mitti (soil) to build the footwork that wins matches.
High-knee running drills are fundamental for improving a player's speed and coordination. This exercise is a staple in our warm-ups to prepare the body for intense Kabaddi movements.
This video shows a combination of agility drills we practice, including cone weaving and chain block practice. These exercises simulate game situations to improve a player's defensive and offensive footwork.
About Agility & Speed Drills
Look closely at our ladder drills. It is not just about moving your feet fast, it is about staying low. In Kabaddi, if your hips are high, the defender catches you. We drill low-gravity footwork on the ground specifically to ensure that when you go for that toe touch or dash, you stay balanced and impossible to pin down.
Speed in Kabaddi isn't about running in a straight line. It is about how fast you can stop, change direction, and explode again. We don't use high-tech gym floors. We train on the mitti in Shadipur because that is where the real game is played.
Why Soil Training Matters
Training on natural soil builds stabilizing muscles that you simply cannot get on a foam mat or a gym floor. When you practice cone weaving or high-knee drills on the ground, your ankles and calves are working twice as hard to maintain balance. This is why our students don't just get fast; they get durable. They don't buckle under pressure during a match.
Our Agility Methodology
We break down movement into simple, repeatable patterns:
- Ladder Drills: These are non-negotiable for improving foot speed and coordination. It teaches your feet to follow your mind instantly.
- Cone Weaving: This simulates defensive dodges. If you can weave through these cones at full speed, you can weave through a chain block on the mat.
- Dash Practice: We use tractor tires to build the explosive power needed for a dash. You need the strength to initiate the move and the speed to finish it before the defender recovers.
Preparing for the Real Mat
We combine these drills with strict discipline. Whether you are a raider looking to improve your escape speed or a defender needing to close the gap on a corner, these drills are the foundation. We don't care if you are a beginner or a state-level player, the mitti treats everyone the same. You put in the work, you see the result in the next tournament.
