On-Field Speed & Agility Training for Cricketers

Gym strength is useless if you can't translate it to the pitch. I focus on cricket-specific acceleration, reaction drills, and field agility to help you move faster when it matters most.

A demonstration of proper running mechanics on the field at the stadium. We start with fundamental drills like A-skips to reinforce the correct form before progressing to full sprints, ensuring every movement is efficient and powerful.

A speed session with state-level cricketers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This video shows competitive reaction drills and sprints, which are designed to improve complex speed components like acceleration and agility under pressure.

Here, I'm working with former Indian cricketer Parvinder Awana on complex speed development. The session includes resisted sprints and change-of-direction drills to enhance neural agility and explosive power, critical for high-level fielding and running.

This is a look at off-season conditioning for a team of cricketers. We use intensive interval training on the field to build a strong endurance base, which significantly improves VO2 max and overall athletic performance for the upcoming season.

A game-specific warm-up is crucial for preparing the body for the demands of cricket. Here, I'm leading a team through a series of dynamic movements, mobility exercises, and light running drills to activate the right muscles and prevent injury.

Team building exercises and minor games are a great way to improve team cohesiveness and communication. These fun, competitive drills also serve as a form of conditioning, improving coordination and agility in a dynamic setting.

About this collection

Most people think running on a treadmill makes you faster. It doesn't. On the field, speed is about reaction time, change-of-direction, and how fast your brain tells your muscles to fire. We focus on complex speed—drills that mimic the exact demands of a match, whether you're fielding or running between the wickets. Gym ka kaam ground pe dikhna chahiye.

True cricket speed is rarely a straight line. It is about how quickly you can decelerate, change direction, and explode into a new movement. My sessions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and across Delhi NCR are built on this reality.

The Science of Complex Speed

I differentiate between elementary speed (running fast in a straight line) and complex speed (acceleration, deceleration, and reaction). In cricket, you are constantly reacting to the ball, the fielder, or the batter. We train your nervous system to handle this, using:

  • Neuro-Agility Drills: Improving the brain-to-muscle connection so you react instinctively.
  • Change-of-Direction (COD): Training the specific angles required for fielding and quick singles.
  • Resisted Sprints: Building the force production necessary for faster acceleration off the mark.

Why Field-Based Training Matters

Your environment dictates your performance. Training on a flat gym floor is different from training on the variable surface of a cricket ground. By conducting sessions on the field, I ensure your body learns to handle uneven surfaces, grass friction, and game-day conditions. We work on your ability to stop, turn, and accelerate without losing balance or risking injury.

Injury Prevention

Speed without stability is a recipe for injury. Every agility drill I prescribe includes a neuro-centric injury prevention element. We use CAPE (Core Accessories Prehab Exercises) to ensure that as you get faster, your joints remain protected. Whether you are a batsman looking to steal quick runs or a fielder aiming for that extra yard of reach, my programming is designed to get you there safely and efficiently.
