Aerial Fitness: Silk and Hammock Yoga
Discover the freedom of flight. Whether you are scaling silks or finding deep stretches in a hammock, I will help you build core strength and grace at your own pace.
This video shows an aerial silk drop called the "Succession drop." It requires precise wrapping and control to execute safely and is an exhilarating way to build confidence and body awareness.
Feeling like Tinkerbell while practicing a sequence on the aerial silk. This flow involves inverting, splitting, and transitioning gracefully, showcasing the creative and athletic side of aerial arts.
Here are some behind the scenes clips from my aerial silk training. Practice involves a lot of repetition, building strength, and working through complex wraps and movements.
Learning to fly in an aerial hammock. This scorpion backbend variation, supported by the hammock, allows for a deeper stretch than what might be possible on the mat, improving flexibility while inverted.
A different angle of the inverted scorpion pose in the aerial hammock. This view shows how the hammock supports the hips, allowing the spine to open up and release tension.
About Aerial Fitness: Silk & Hammock
Aerial arts can look intimidating, but it is essentially about trust—trusting the fabric to hold you and your body to move in new ways. I focus on breaking down complex wraps and drops into manageable steps, so even if you have never climbed a silk before, we start by getting comfortable with the fabric low to the ground.
Building Strength in the Air
Aerial fitness is more than just a workout; it is a total reset for your body and mind. Many students come to me thinking they need to be professional gymnasts to start, but that is not the case. We work on building foundational grip strength and core stability before attempting any advanced aerial silk drops, like the Succession drop you see in my gallery.
My Approach to Aerial Training
- Hammock Yoga: Perfect for beginners, the hammock acts as a support system. It helps you get into deeper backbends, like the inverted scorpion pose, without putting excessive strain on your joints. It is excellent for decompression.
- Aerial Silks: Once you are comfortable, we move to silks. This is where we work on climbing, wrapping, and finding flow.
- Safety First: I always prioritize safe practice. We use mats, and I provide tactile adjustments for my in-home students in Whitefield and East Bangalore to ensure your alignment is correct while you are in the air.
Why Add Aerial to Your Routine?
Aside from looking incredible, aerial training is a massive confidence builder. There is a specific kind of 'log off' moment that happens when you are inverted, focused entirely on your next move. It is about breathing in power and exhaling doubt, just like in my mat yoga practice. Whether you are looking for flexibility, back pain relief, or just a new way to move, we will take it one wrap at a time.
