About Kathak Foundation: For Kids & Beginners
I do not just teach dance steps. We start from the ground up, focusing on correct alignment, hand gestures, and mastering the Jaipur gharana footwork known as tatkaar. My classes are designed to be disciplined yet supportive, ensuring you understand the rhythm before we move to complex compositions.
Kathak is a journey, not a race. At my studio, we break down the Jaipur gharana style into manageable parts so that even if you have never danced before, you feel confident in your movements.
Why Technique Matters
We prioritize basics because they are the building blocks of dance. You will learn to control your balance, understand the difference between a simple step and a proper chakkar (spin), and hold your hand mudras with intent. I am known for correcting posture in real-time, because bad habits formed in the beginning are hard to break later.
The Studio Experience
My classes are not just drills. We use live Tabla accompaniment during periodic sessions, which helps you internalize the taal (rhythm) naturally. This is a space where I encourage students to ask questions and push themselves.
