The genesis of our practice, born from conversations in hostels and studios, questioning how architecture can be more than just design.
Our beginnings in 2017, when we said yes to the unknown in a small, borrowed studio space in Ahmedabad, laying our first bricks, both literal and metaphorical.
In 2018, we took our first steps with our first exhibition and five projects, testing ideas in the real world.

About this collection
Our design process is deeply collaborative, born from eight years of debate, sketching, and refining. We treat every project as a conversation, ensuring that the spaces we build are as thoughtful as they are functional.
Compartment S4 began in 2017 as a group of eight friends with a shared belief that architecture should be more than just form. Over the last eight years, we have grown into a practice that views every project as a dialogue. Our studios are based in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, but our real home is the creative process itself.
We specialize in adaptive reuse and heritage revitalization. When we take on a project, we look for the story already embedded in the site. Whether it is a forgotten factory, an old post office, or a piece of open land, we work to honor what exists while adding what is needed for contemporary life.
Our collaborative structure is our strength. We bring eight distinct perspectives to the table, ensuring that each solution is debated, sketched, and refined until it feels right. We avoid repeating the same style. Instead, we prioritize context-sensitive design, using materials that make sense for the location, such as local stone, bamboo, or lime plaster.
