Transforming a former industrial canteen in Ahmedabad into a luminous, contemporary office workspace rooted in its past.

A walkthrough of the Monokuro workspace, highlighting the central green courtyard that brings light and nature into the heart of the repurposed industrial building.

The internal courtyard acts as a green lung for the office, with glass walls creating a seamless connection between the workspaces and the lush plantings.

This video collage shows the journey of the Monokuro project, from its industrial origins to a vibrant open house event, showcasing the space in use.

We were honored to have Monokuro selected for an open house by Ahmedabad Commons, recognized as a "Building of Eminence" for its thoughtful adaptive reuse design.

Our Monokuro project was featured on designboom, highlighting its innovative approach to transforming a factory canteen into a modern office.

About this collection

We stripped back the factory canteen to its bones, keeping the structural grid intact while introducing glass walls and a central courtyard. It creates a space where the industrial past feels light and breathable, rather than heavy or enclosed.

The Monokuro project represents our approach to industrial revitalization in Ahmedabad. Rather than demolishing the structure to build anew, we worked with the existing factory canteen shell to uncover its latent potential.

Our primary intervention was introducing a central green courtyard. This acts as the lungs of the office, bringing natural light deep into the interior and softening the rigid, industrial lines of the original building. We retained the structural grid, opting for high-performance glass walls that allow visual continuity across the floor plate.

By using a minimal material palette, we allowed the history of the site to remain visible. The industrial frame provides a strong, honest backdrop, while the internal glass partitions create a sense of lightness and transparency. This is not just a renovation. It is an exercise in resourcefulness, proving that an old office can be transformed into a productive, modern environment without needing to start from scratch.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful zoning and the integration of nature can significantly impact workplace well-being. Whether you are looking at commercial office interiors or an industrial property requiring a fresh start, our process focuses on maintaining the structural integrity of the site while making it functional for today.
