This before and after view of the Rung Community Museum's street facade captures the essence of our work: revitalizing heritage structures to restore their original charm and reactivate their presence in the community.
The Sargakhet Handicraft Centre, once a dilapidated British-era post office, is now a warm, inviting hub for local artisans, seen here glowing at dusk in the Mukteshwar valley.
Inside the Rung Community Museum, a perspective of repeating doorways framed by local pine wood and textured mud-plastered walls creates a journey through the restored space, honoring its past.

The transformation of the museum's upper floor corridor shows how we turned a neglected, decaying space into a light-filled gallery with restored stone walls and intricate woodwork.

About Adaptive Reuse & Heritage Restoration

We work with buildings that have seen it all. I see each old wall and creaky floor as a piece of living history, not just something to fix up. My goal is to take forgotten spaces and give them a second chance, blending their past with what people need today.

How I Work

  • I dive into the stories of the place and the people first. No cookie-cutter style, just what fits the vibe and memory of the building.
  • Restoring isn’t just patchwork. Sometimes it’s about using local mud plaster or adding a skylight for natural light, but always respecting what’s already there.
  • I bring in local artisans whenever I can. If you’ve seen Likhai woodwork in Uttarakhand, you know how much craft matters.
  • Sustainable adaptive reuse is at the core - reusing what’s there, cutting down waste, and making sure these buildings stick around.

What I’ve Done

  • The Rung Community Museum in Uttarakhand - took an old dharamshala and turned it into a museum using local woodwork.
  • Sargakhet Handicraft Centre - restored a British-era post office so local artisans have a place to work and show their stuff.
  • Factory to office in Ahmedabad - converted an industrial space into a green, open workspace.

What I Offer

  • Context-sensitive restoration and revitalized historic buildings
  • Repurposing for new uses - museums, offices, cafes, or community centers
  • Integrating modern stuff into old places, keeping local craftsmanship front and center

You get a building that feels both old and new, ready for the next chapter.

My Story

We call ourselves Compartment S4, like a train ride with co-passengers, always moving, always learning. Our studios are in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, but really, our home is the creative process. We love site visits—sometimes it’s a dharamshala in Uttarakhand, sometimes a plaza for women in Ahmedabad. Design for us is quiet, strong, and rooted in care. We’re here for the stories, the laughter, and the spaces that bring people together.

My Work

What We Do - Architecture, Urban Design, and Interior Design for residences, restaurants, and community spaces. We focus on adaptive reuse architecture and heritage revitalization design.

Our Approach - Every project is a story. We keep it people-centric, context-sensitive, blending a lived-in vibe with minimalist residential interiors.

How We Work - We sketch, shuffle, get our hands dirty. We listen to the place, the people, and let that shape the design.

What You Get - Spaces that feel earthy and calm. We create visual and emotional anchors, where daily life meets thoughtful design.
