Music is the heartbeat of Capoeira. From the call of the berimbau to the rhythm of our songs, join us to learn the pulse of this Afro-Brazilian art form.

An instructor teaches the rhythm of the berimbau, the single-stringed instrument that leads the Roda. Participants learn to play instruments and contribute to the music.

A close-up of our music workshop. Everyone gets a chance to play, from the powerful atabaque drums to the shaker-like caxixi, learning the rhythms that are the foundation of Capoeira.

The whole group joins in a traditional Capoeira song. This call-and-response singing is a vital part of the experience, uniting the group and fueling the energy of the players in the Roda.

A collage capturing the essence of our events. Music is always at the center, creating a vibrant atmosphere of friendship and shared culture.

About this collection

You don't need musical talent to join our Bateria. We break down the rhythms into simple claps and calls so you can start contributing to the sound of the Roda from day one. It is not about perfect technique, it is about adding your voice to the collective energy of the group.

The music is the soul of the Roda. Without the steady rhythm of the berimbau, the game would lose its direction and intent. In our workshops, we demystify the Bateria, which is the band of instruments that dictates the pace of our training. You will learn how to handle the atabaque drums and the pandeiro, but more importantly, you will learn why we play them.

We teach the traditional call-and-response songs in Portuguese. These are not just lyrics, they are histories passed down through generations. When you sing, you are not just making noise. You are connecting with everyone in the room. Even if you have never touched an instrument or spoken a word of Portuguese, you will find your place in the circle.

Our sessions are structured to be inclusive for everyone:

  • Instrument basics: Understanding the specific role of the berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro.
  • Rhythm training: Learning the distinct beats that signal changes in the game.
  • Vocals: Practicing the pronunciation and meaning behind classic Capoeira songs.
  • The Connection: Seeing how the music directly influences your movement and your partner's response.

Whether you join us at our studio in Domlur or bring us to your space for a workshop, the goal remains the same. We want you to feel the Axé, that vital energy that defines our practice.

I am Ravi, and I have been living and breathing Capoeira since I was 14. For me, the music is not just background noise, it is the conversation that guides how we move. Come learn how to play the berimbau and find your rhythm with us.
