The Roda: Experience Capoeira’s Heart in India
The Roda is where our practice comes to life. It is a circle of energy, music, and playful movement where you don't just learn moves—you engage in a real, live conversation with your partner.
The Roda is where we bring everything together: the music, the moves, and the Axé (positive energy). Watch two of our members play, responding to each other's movements in a fluid, unscripted game.
Here in the park, two students engage in a Capoeira game, demonstrating the flow and interaction we teach. One student executes a low escape while the other performs a kick, showcasing the dynamic conversation of movement.

A throwback to a previous Batizado, our annual grading ceremony. The Roda is filled with energy as students and teachers gather to play, celebrate progress, and share their passion for the art.
Two of our female students playing in the Roda. Capoeira is for everyone, and we foster an environment where all members feel empowered to express themselves and test their skills in a friendly game.
This image captures a moment of connection and play inside the Roda. It’s not about fighting; it’s a conversation between two people, using the language of Capoeira.
A glimpse into our workshop and Roda highlights. You can see the instructor guiding the flow of the game, while the bateria (musicians) provides the essential rhythm.
Senior students lead the bateria while teachers play an amazing game in the Roda. This shows the full circle of learning, where students grow to become leaders in our community.
The Roda is where our soul ignites. This is where we move, play, and grow together as a family, with every clap and song adding to the collective energy.

About The Roda: The Heart of the Game
In the Roda, the music drives the game. The berimbau (musical bow) dictates the speed—whether the game is fast and aggressive or slow and strategic—so you learn to listen with your body as much as your eyes. It is not about fighting; it is about playing, reacting, and finding your own flow within the circle.
More Than Just a Martial Art
When we step into the Roda, we aren't there to win a fight. We are there to exchange energy. The Roda is the heart of every class at the academy. It is a circle where the bateria (our group of musicians) sits, playing instruments like the pandeiro and the atabaque to create a rhythm that dictates the mood of the game.
Why You Will Fit In
I often see new students hesitate because they think they need to be acrobats to join the circle. That is not the case. We welcome all levels. You might start by just clapping, learning the songs in Portuguese, or playing in the circle with a partner who guides you through the basic ginga (sway) and simple escapes.
The Role of Axé
Everything we do revolves around Axé—our word for positive, collective energy. When you enter the Roda, you are supported by the group. We clap, we sing, and we watch each other, which pushes you to try moves you might not attempt on your own. It is a space where strangers become friends through shared movement.
What to Expect
- Music First: We spend time learning to play the instruments before we move. You will learn the rhythm of the game first.
- Real Interaction: Unlike solo martial arts, this is a dialogue. You will learn to anticipate your partner's moves and respond with grace.
- Community Growth: From our annual Batizado grading to our regular sessions in Bangalore and Mumbai, the community is what keeps us training.
Capoeira Academy
I’m Ravi, and I’ve been living and breathing Capoeira since I was 14. For me, the Roda isn't a performance; it’s a living classroom where we learn how to play, adapt, and connect with people from all walks of life.
