Acrobatics and Floreios: Master Capoeira Movement
Capoeira is about more than just kicks; it is about finding your rhythm and learning how to move with confidence, from your first cartwheel to your first flip.
A student practices a cartwheel (aú) in the park, surrounded by beautiful yellow flowers. Capoeira allows you to find your flow and connect with your surroundings, turning any space into a place to play.
Students practicing handstand variations using a plyometric box for support. We use simple equipment to help you safely build the core strength and balance needed for advanced acrobatics.
An instructor demonstrates QDR (Queda de Rins) drills, a foundational Capoeira movement that builds core strength, agility, and coordination. This low-to-the-ground move is a great way to improve body control.
Partner handstand drills in class. Working with a partner provides support and helps build trust, making it easier and more fun to master challenging moves like handstands.
A student practices a front roll over a small table, a drill designed to build confidence and control for more complex tumbling. We break down every acrobatic move into safe, manageable steps.
A student practices a wall-assisted handstand, a great way to build strength and get comfortable being upside down. This clip was shared to celebrate the strength of our female practitioners on Women's Day.
An outdoor handstand session. We often take our practice outside to enjoy the fresh air and open space, which is perfect for working on acrobatics and dynamic movements.
A student practices a partner-assisted handstand, focusing on alignment and balance. Our instructors provide hands-on support to ensure you learn safely and effectively.
A student holds a handstand against the wall, building shoulder and core strength. This is a fundamental exercise we use to prepare for more dynamic acrobatic movements.
An instructor demonstrates a solo Capoeira sequence, blending kicks and low-to-the-ground movements in a fluid and controlled manner. This shows the personal artistry you can develop.
About Acrobatics & Floreios: Express Yourself
Learning to flip or hold a handstand in my classes does not require prior gymnastics experience. We use controlled drills and partner support to break down complex moves like the Macaco or Queda de Rins into smaller, achievable steps, so you build strength safely while you play.
Capoeira movement is a journey of body control. We start by focusing on the Ginga—the foundational swing—before we ever attempt a flip. My classes in Bengaluru and Mumbai are designed to demystify acrobatics. Whether you are at Dhurii Academy, Namma Nook, or the Shaolin Temple Academy, we follow a progression that ensures safety.
The Progression of Movement
We don't just jump into flips. We build your base through:
- Animal Walks: These warm-ups build the wrist and shoulder mobility needed for advanced work.
- Queda de Rins (QDR): This foundational pose teaches you how to balance your body weight in new ways, which is essential for almost every floor-based move.
- Handstand Drills: Using walls and partner spotting, we get you comfortable being upside down, which is the biggest mental hurdle for most beginners.
Why It Matters
Beyond the cool factor of a Macaco or a spinning kick, this training develops functional strength. You gain core stability and agility that transfers to your daily life. More importantly, it is about the Axé—the energy of the circle. You are not just training muscles; you are learning to express yourself and connect with the tribe. If you are ready to stop just watching and start playing, join us for a session and find your own flow.
Capoeira Academy
I have been living the Capoeira life since I was 14. These classes are where I share the same energy—that Axé—that turned my own life into a constant game of movement and connection.
