Every face holds a unique story, and I am here to help you capture yours. I use premium graphite and charcoal on archival paper to create realistic portraits that go beyond just likeness, focusing on the emotions and subtle details that make you, you.

A serene portrait of Rosi Das, where I focused on creating a beautiful play of soft tones and light. This piece is an example of how I use subtle shading to convey emotion.

Watch the creation of this portrait, from the initial outline of the hair to the delicate shading of the face, capturing a moment of quiet contemplation.

This process video shows how I build up the soft textures and deep tones in the hair and skin to create a lifelike and emotive portrait.

This is a commissioned portrait of Lavanya, whose name means grace. I aimed to capture her quiet elegance, from her expressive eyes to the intricate details of her jewelry.

A time-lapse showing the meticulous process of drawing Lavanya's portrait, highlighting the detailed work on her features and accessories.

An A3 commissioned portrait that captures the classic beauty of Indian elegance, with a focus on the subject's expressive glance over her shoulder.

This video showcases the transition from a blank page to a fully realized portrait, emphasizing the depth and emotion I strive for in my work.

About this collection

A truly lifelike portrait is not just about tracing features, it is about the layers. I work slowly with professional-grade Staedtler graphite and General's charcoal on heavy, archival-grade Fabriano paper, building depth one deliberate stroke at a time. Whether I am capturing the soft gleam in your eyes or the subtle texture of skin, I do not rush the process. This patience is why my work—from reviewing your high-resolution reference photos to applying the final protective fixative—ensures that your portrait will not just look real today, but will remain a cherished heirloom for years to come.

My Approach to Realism

I believe art is a conversation between the artist and the subject. When you commission an individual portrait, we start by discussing your reference photo. Good lighting and clarity are essential, as they allow me to see the details that matter—the angle of a smile or the way light hits your face.

The Materials I Use

I rely on tools that have stood the test of time. I use Fabriano and Canson archival-grade paper because they are designed to last, ensuring your portrait does not yellow or degrade. My pencils include the full range of Staedtler and General's charcoal, which give me the freedom to create both deep, velvety blacks and soft, luminous highlights. Every finished piece is coated with a high-grade matte fixative to prevent smudging and dust, ensuring it arrives at your home in perfect condition.

Your Options

  • Standard Portraits: These are my signature A4 graphite and charcoal studies. They are focused, intimate, and perfect for framing.
  • Collaborative '50-50' Portraits: If you are a budding artist or want to be part of the creation, you can provide the initial sketch outline, and I will take over to apply the professional shading, depth, and refinement. It is a beautiful way to turn your own effort into a finished work of art.

If you have a specific moment or a loved one in mind, please reach out. I take on a limited number of commissions at a time to ensure I can give every face the attention it deserves. Let’s create something that holds a piece of your heart.

Hi, I’m Komal. For me, drawing is not just about technique, it is my way of holding onto moments that matter. When I pick up my pencil, I am not just making a sketch; I am trying to capture the love, the story, and the quiet beauty in the person sitting before me.
