Classic Charcoal Portraits
There is a timeless, dramatic quality to charcoal that brings out raw emotion. I hand-draw each custom portrait on heavy-weight paper, capturing the light, shadow, and soul of your most cherished memories.

Here I am, holding my finished self portrait. It's a strange and wonderful feeling to hold a piece that is so personal. This is the result of patience, practice, and a lot of love for my craft.

The details in this paid charcoal sketch of a man and his motorcycle were a wonderful challenge. From the shine on the engine to the texture of his jacket, every part was drawn with precision.

About Classic Charcoal Sketches
Every portrait I create uses high-contrast charcoal on premium Fabriano or Ivory paper, ensuring the texture and depth last for years. Once the shading is finished, I apply a professional fixative spray to lock the graphite in place so your sketch arrives smudge-free and ready for you to frame.
Charcoal allows me to play with dramatic light and deep shadows in a way that pencil alone cannot. Whether you want to capture a quiet moment, a family milestone, or a tribute to a loved one, this medium brings a sense of gravity to the subject.
My Process
I work directly from the reference photos you provide. If you have a group photo that needs adjusting, I can combine faces from different images into one cohesive composition. The process starts with a light layout and moves into slow, methodical shading. I share 1 to 2 progress updates with you so we are aligned on the likeness before I finalize the details like fabric textures or jewelry.
Materials & Care
I only use professional-grade materials like Strathmore and Fabriano paper, which provide the best base for charcoal layering. Your artwork is finished with a fixative spray to prevent smudging. Each piece is shipped in a rigid PVC tube to ensure it reaches you safely, without any folds or damage. All portraits are provided unframed, allowing you to choose a frame that matches your home decor.
