Yoga should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical limitations. My chair yoga sessions use specialized props to provide the full benefits of asanas, pranayama, and meditation in a safe, supported manner.

Here, I am guiding a group through a supported Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend) using chairs. This prop allows for a deep, safe spinal stretch without straining the lower back, making it an excellent pose for relieving tension from sitting.

My chair yoga classes incorporate a variety of dynamic and restorative poses. You can see students moving through lunges, core strengthening exercises, and deep backbends, all using the chair for support and alignment.

Proper alignment is key, even in a modified practice. I provide hands on adjustments and verbal cues to ensure each student finds the correct posture, as seen here in a forward bend and a hip opening pose using the chair.

This sequence shows a group practicing Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) and other standing poses with chair support. The chair helps maintain balance and allows for a deeper opening in the hips and side body, making the pose more accessible.

Stillness is as important as movement. This video shows how we use props like chairs and blocks for supported meditation, which helps release tension, align posture, and gently calm the nervous system to ease stress and anxiety.

About Chair Yoga: Accessible for Every Body

You might think sitting on a chair limits your practice, but it is actually a precise way to correct alignment. By using the chair as a steady prop, we perform variations like Chair Surya Namaskar that target 'tech-neck' and lower back stiffness directly. This approach allows office workers and those with limited mobility to access deep stretches without the physical strain or balancing issues of traditional floor poses.
