Architecture is a slow, meditative journey. This collection represents our ongoing inquiry into how built spaces evolve, age, and find new meaning alongside the people who inhabit them.

This is a 'wedge home' we designed 23 years ago in Hyderabad on an unusual triangular plot. Visiting it after two decades, it was wonderful to see how the home has matured with its garden and the family that loves it.

A detail of the 'wedge home' in Hyderabad, where a tree has grown and intertwined with the architecture over the years, a beautiful example of how buildings and nature can coexist.

About Additional Works & Explorations

We often seek the projects others deem difficult. Take the wedge home in Hyderabad we designed over two decades ago; it sat on a triangular plot that many avoided due to its irregular shape. We saw potential where others saw constraints, and revisiting it years later, we observed how the garden and the home matured together with the family, proving that the right design allows a building to truly grow rather than remaining static.

Architecture as a Living Process

For us, a building is never finished the day the construction ends. These explorations, ranging from private residences to unbuilt conceptual studies, reflect our belief that a space is a conversation between the site's history and the people who will eventually inhabit it.

Designing for Constraints

Often, the most interesting projects arise from sites that present unique challenges. Whether it is an irregular plot in a suburban gated community or a sensitive heritage environment, our process involves listening to the land first. We analyze topography, water movement, and existing flora to inform our decisions. By embracing these constraints rather than trying to erase them, we create homes that feel like they have always belonged to the landscape.

Material and Time

We prioritize honest materials like granite, concrete, and stone. We look for solutions that age with grace, allowing a structure to acquire character over time rather than just wearing out.

Our approach to private residential architecture focuses on:

  • Contextual Orientation: Maximizing natural light and ventilation through site-specific layouts.
  • Adaptive Spaces: Creating rooms that can serve multiple functions as a family's needs change over the years.
  • Integration with Nature: Ensuring that gardens and green spaces are woven into the living experience, not kept as separate entities.

By viewing architecture through this lens, we aim to build places that invite you to stay, think, or just breathe for a while.

I am Soumitro, working alongside Nisha at our studio in Koramangala. We approach every site, whether a challenging urban plot or a quiet corner in the Nilgiris, as a story waiting to be told through stone, light, and structure.
