Mountain Soul: Ashtanga & Ayurveda Retreat in Dharamshala
Join us in the Himalayas for a mindful escape where authentic Ashtanga practice meets Ayurvedic nourishment. Reset your rhythm in the peaceful village of Bhagsu.
Learn from Tapan, an authentic teacher from the T. Krishnamacharya lineage. He guides the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice, helping you deepen your understanding of breath and philosophy. His own practice, shown here in a seated twist and a forearm stand, reflects his dedication.
Discover the healing power of food with Sahana of Rasayana Mysore Kitchen. She provides nourishing Ayurvedic meals throughout the retreat, like the beautiful dishes pictured here. You will also learn the fundamentals of Ayurvedic cooking in her workshops.
This is where you will stay during our Dharamshala retreat. The collage shows the comfortable bedroom, the cozy cafe for connecting with others, and the spacious yogshala with stunning panoramic mountain views.
Here is a look at a typical day during the program. Mornings begin with Ashtanga Yoga, followed by an Ayurvedic brunch. The day unfolds with Ayurveda basics, cultural activities like jewellery making or classical singing, and ends with a gratitude circle.
In this immersive program, you can expect to practice Ashtanga Yoga in the serene mountains and learn correct alignment for a sustainable practice. The experience is complemented by learning the principles of Ayurveda and its diet for holistic wellbeing.
About Mountain Soul: Ashtanga & Ayurveda in Dharamshala
Our Dharamshala retreats are designed as intimate experiences, typically capped at small group sizes to ensure you receive direct adjustments and personal attention during your asana practice. You will find that the schedule is balanced intentionally, with morning Ashtanga sessions to energize the body and evening restorative work to ground the mind, all while enjoying fresh, Ayurvedic meals that change daily based on local mountain produce.
Deepen Your Practice in the Himalayas
This is not just a vacation, but a dedicated time for your practice. Led by teachers from the T. Krishnamacharya lineage, our Ashtanga Vinyasa sessions focus on building a sustainable foundation, whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your existing alignment. We spend time breaking down the breath and philosophy behind the asanas, helping you understand how to carry this practice home with you.
Nourishment Through Ayurveda
Yoga is only half the journey. Sahana of Rasayana Mysore Kitchen guides you through the principles of Ayurveda, showing you how food acts as medicine. Throughout your stay in Bhagsu, you will enjoy three sattvic vegetarian meals daily. Beyond eating, we hold workshops where you can learn the fundamentals of Ayurvedic cooking, including how to use seasonal herbs and spices to support your specific body type (dosha).
The Setting
We stay in a boutique yoga homestay in Bhagsu village, Dharamshala, chosen for its quiet atmosphere and panoramic mountain views. You will have access to a dedicated yoga shala, cozy common spaces, and plenty of room to disconnect.
What to expect from your retreat:
- Daily Routine: Morning practice followed by brunch, afternoon Ayurvedic workshops, and gentle evening rituals.
- Digital Detox: We encourage limited device usage to help you settle into the mountain silence.
- Community: Small group sizes mean you will have plenty of space to connect with fellow practitioners during sharing circles, gratitude sessions, or evening walks.
- Support: Tapan and Sahana are available throughout the retreat to guide your practice, offer dietary advice, and ensure your stay is comfortable and fulfilling.
