Kids and Family Yoga: Bringing Movement Home

Yoga is a wonderful gift to share with children. My playful sessions use games and movement to help your little ones build balance, strength, and confidence while we practice together.

A morning practice session with my son. He loves to climb and play while I move through my asanas. These moments of laughter and joy are just as important as any formal practice.

A playful handstand with my son balancing on my feet. This is a great exercise in trust and stability for both of us, and it always ends in laughter.

My son learning to balance and climb on a small pole. Play is a child's natural way of learning, and incorporating elements of strength and balance into playtime is a great foundation for physical literacy.

A yoga playdate with my son and his friends. We use props and games to introduce them to yoga concepts in a way that is engaging, fun, and builds their confidence and coordination.

Another view of our father-son handstand. His complete trust and my steady base create a beautiful picture of balance and connection.

The focus and fun of our partner balance. These activities help develop body awareness and cooperative skills in a playful, supportive way.

A collage capturing our handstand fun. Sharing these moments is a reminder that yoga is not just about individual achievement but also about connection.

About this collection

We don't just teach poses to kids. We use games, storytelling, and props—like specialized chairs and ropes—to build their physical literacy naturally. If you are worried about their attention span, don't be. Our sessions are built around how kids move, not how they sit. It is about establishing trust and having fun, so bring them along to see them light up on the mat.

For me, yoga is a tool for connection. When my son, Vivasvaan, joins me on the mat, it is not a rigid routine; it is an exploration of what our bodies can do together. My classes for children in Koramangala are designed with this same spirit.

Why Play Matters

Children experience the world through movement and curiosity. In our kids' yoga batches, we move away from traditional static postures and toward active play. We use props from our shala—the same wooden blocks, ropes, and bolsters adults use—to help children understand their own center of gravity. This creates a safe space for them to fall, recover, and try again, which is the most important lesson in any practice.

What to Expect in a Session

  • Physical Literacy: We focus on coordination, posture, and core strength, disguised as animal flows and balancing games.
  • Emotional Regulation: Through breathing exercises and partner activities, children learn to identify their feelings and find a bit of calm, even when they are full of energy.
  • No Perfectionism: Just as I teach in my adult classes, progress matters more than the perfect pose. We celebrate the effort and the laughter that happens when a balance pose goes slightly off-center.

Whether you are looking for a weekend activity to do as a family or a space where your child can develop focus and discipline, these sessions provide a nurturing environment. We keep the batches small to ensure every child gets the attention they need to practice safely. If you are curious about whether your child is ready, drop in for a session and watch them explore.
