Guided Practice and Hands-On Yoga Adjustments
Deepen your practice with personalized support. I use manual adjustments and props to help you find correct alignment, build strength, and move safely, no matter your experience level.
Here, I am assisting a student in Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (One-Legged King Pigeon Pose). My guidance helps them to safely open their hips and deepen the backbend, ensuring the stretch is both effective and therapeutic for the shoulders and quadriceps.
A closer look at an assisted Eka Pada Rajakapotasana. By supporting the student's foot and arm, I help them achieve greater openness in the chest and shoulders. This kind of adjustment is key to progressing in complex backbends.
Building arm strength for Bakasana (Crow Pose) can be challenging. In this clip, I am providing physical support to help a student find their balance point and build the confidence needed to hold the pose independently. This builds core and upper body strength.
This partner exercise is a dynamic warm up for the spine. The gentle pressure helps to release tension along the back and prepare the body for deeper forward folds and backbends, demonstrating how we can use support to enhance our practice.
During a workshop, I guide a student in a modified kneeling backbend. My hands on her back provide stability and encourage a deeper opening through the chest and thoracic spine. This is a great example of how I tailor my approach to each individual's body.
A smile of achievement. With a little support, this student finds more depth and comfort in her backbend. My role as a teacher is to help you explore your limits safely and joyfully, fostering a positive relationship with your practice.
About this collection
In my shala, an adjustment isn't about forcing you deeper into a pose. It is about providing the right leverage and stability—whether using a chair, a rope wall, or my own hands—to help you discover where your body naturally finds its edge. You will always move at your own pace, not mine, ensuring every stretch feels grounded and effective for your specific body.
Why Adjustments Matter
Many students worry about 'doing it wrong.' My role as your teacher is to bridge that gap. Hands-on adjustments are not just about correcting posture; they are about feedback. When I use my hands to guide your shoulder or adjust your hip in a backbend, I am helping you feel the alignment that your eyes cannot see in the mirror.
The Role of Props
Beyond manual guidance, my studio in Koramangala is equipped with specialized Iyengar-style props. We use heavy wooden blocks, straps, chairs, and wall ropes to create space in your joints. These are not crutches for beginners. They are tools that allow even advanced practitioners to hold poses longer and breathe deeper, removing the physical strain that often prevents a true release of tension.
What You Can Expect
- Safety First: Whether you are recovering from an injury or working on your first handstand, I provide physical spotting to ensure you enter and exit poses without strain.
- Tailored Progress: If you struggle with tight hips or a stiff back, my hands-on approach helps you bypass these limitations, allowing you to access the benefits of Hatha and Ashtanga flows safely.
- Individual Attention: My goal is to teach you how your body works. By the end of our sessions, you will have a better understanding of your own alignment, giving you the confidence to practice with more awareness, both in class and at home.
Nirakula Yoga
I am Amaresha. I believe yoga is about showing up and finding your rhythm, not achieving perfect poses on the first try. My approach mixes my background in theatre and dance with technical Hatha and Ashtanga flows, ensuring every student feels seen, safe, and supported on their mat.
