Bangalore Club Gents’ Wellness Renovation
We reimagined the gents' washroom at the historic Bangalore Club, balancing colonial elegance with modern wellness technology.
The entrance to the gents' washroom sets a tone of refined elegance. A classic chandelier and traditional sconces illuminate the space, highlighting the intricate patterned tilework that serves as a focal point, framed perfectly by an archway.
This wide view of the gents' changing area shows the clean lines of the custom cabinetry and integrated bench seating. Modern strip LED lighting provides ambient illumination, while the wooden door to the sauna adds a touch of natural warmth.
The executed changing area features ample overhead and low-level storage, crafted from warm wood. Art leather cushion seating provides comfort, while recessed LED profile lighting creates a calm and inviting atmosphere for members.
Modern wellness amenities, like these new steam and sauna rooms, are seamlessly integrated into the heritage setting of the Bangalore Club. The design uses warm wood paneling and clear signage to create a functional, spa-like experience that respects the original structure.
In the urinal area, colonial gold stone partitions provide privacy and a touch of luxury. The design incorporates water-saving sensor flush valves and is complemented by two types of beige tiles, creating a durable and sophisticated finish.
Detail is everything in historic preservation. This close-up of the gents' washroom sink shows the interplay of textures, from the speckled colonial gold stone to the smooth ceramic basin and the classic design of the chrome faucet, all set against a backdrop of decorative tiles.
About this collection
The main challenge at Bangalore Club was integrating high-end steam and sauna facilities into a heritage shell without disrupting the classic aesthetic. We focused on material continuity, using colonial gold stone partitions to define privacy while layering in modern sensor-based plumbing and efficient LED profile lighting. This ensures the space serves the comfort needs of contemporary members while remaining deeply rooted in the building’s original character.
Our process for this project went beyond simple refurbishment. We treated the washroom as a vital wellness destination, requiring a complete reconfiguration of the floor plan. By establishing clear zones for changing, washing, and relaxation, we allowed the space to flow intuitively for members.
Material choices were critical. We utilized colonial gold stone for its natural durability and visual connection to the club's architecture. To address the humidity inherent in heritage masonry, we installed decentralized ventilation systems that discreetly manage airflow without requiring invasive ductwork.
Every decision was guided by our philosophy of adaptive reuse. We believe historic spaces like the Bangalore Club are not museum pieces but living environments that must accommodate modern comforts. From the choice of heavy-duty vinyl flooring to the installation of steam and sauna modules, the goal was to provide a functional, luxurious experience that feels like a natural evolution of the existing structure. This project stands as a practical example of how we translate timeless design principles into solutions for the way people live and move through spaces today.
