Heritage and Contextual Commercial Design
Blending the rich architectural history of Delhi with contemporary commercial functionality to create spaces that honor their roots.

About Heritage & Contextual Commercial Design
Working in heritage zones like Chandni Chowk requires balancing brand legacy with severe spatial constraints. For Shiv Mishthan Bhandar, I did not just renovate a store; I reinterpreted the haveli aesthetic using Lakhori bricks and red stone to ensure the design felt authentic to its 75-year history, while upgrading the workflow to meet modern standards.
My approach to heritage and contextual commercial design is rooted in the belief that new construction should honor the history of its surroundings. In dense urban environments, this means looking past the surface to understand the structural logic and material culture of the area.
For projects like Shiv Mishthan Bhandar, the challenge was twofold: maintaining the operational efficiency of a high-volume restaurant while creating a space that feels like it has always belonged on that street. I utilized traditional elements like Lakhori bricks and red stone, not merely as decoration, but as primary building materials. These were integrated with modern structural solutions, such as double-height volumes and strategic lighting, to make a narrow plot feel expansive and airy.
This process is applicable to any commercial or retail environment. Whether you are transforming a heritage structure or building a new office in a traditional neighborhood, my focus remains on site analysis, sun path considerations, and the seamless integration of MEP engineering with architectural aesthetics. I handle the entire lifecycle, from the initial concept and exterior facade design to detailed drawings for site execution, ensuring that the final output balances cultural identity with contemporary functionality.
