Our Journey and Parampara in Indian Classical Dance

For us, dance is a parampara, a heritage passed down through generations. These glimpses are from our personal journey, where tradition meets the stage.

This is a very special moment for me, wearing one of my mother's wedding sarees. This connection to my family and our traditions is at the heart of my dance journey.

A glimpse into our "Delhi diaries." This video shows the fun transition from our casual travel look to being fully ready in costume and makeup for a big performance in the city.

Another photo in my mother's beautiful saree. It's a reminder of the parampara, the tradition and legacy that I feel so humbled to carry forward through my art.

About this collection

The saree you see in these photos holds stories beyond the stage. It is my mother’s wedding saree, which I now wear to keep our parampara, or tradition, alive. When we transition from our daily practice clothes to these traditional outfits, it is a deliberate ritual that shifts our focus from technique to the emotional core of our Kathak and Bharathanatyam performances.

Dance at Natyanjali is not just about the steps. Whether we are in our JP Nagar studio or travelling for a show, we approach every performance as a continuation of the Guru-Shishya tradition. My sister Spurthi and I believe that classical dance is a dialogue between the dancer and the heritage they carry.

You will notice in our photos that the transition from a casual 'Delhi diary' vibe to a full performance look is significant. This represents the duality of our life. Off-stage, we are focused on the technical rigour of our Bangalore-based classes, ensuring our students master everything from Adavus to Padhant. On-stage, that rigour disappears, replaced by the storytelling of the dance.

If you are curious about our training, we offer:

  • Foundation batches for Kathak and Bharathanatyam
  • Advanced choreography and stage performance training
  • Private mentorship for Arangetram preparation

We invite you to experience this journey with us. It is more than just learning a form. It is about finding your rhythm and connecting with a culture that has been a part of our lives since we were children.
