About The Guru's Touch: In-Class Choreography & Training
Here, choreography isn't just about learning steps; it’s about correcting the geometry of your body. In these sessions, you’ll see me correcting mudras and posture on the spot—because ek galat aadat body mein ghus gayi toh nikalna mushkil hai (if a wrong habit enters the body, it’s tough to remove).
When you watch our choreography sessions, you’re seeing the transition from practice to performance. We don't just teach the Jathis; we decode them. Whether it’s a Natesha Kauthuvam or a complex Varnam, the focus remains on the 'Aramandi'—the half-sitting posture that forms the backbone of Bharatanatyam. If the Aramandi is off, the entire geometry of the dance collapses, and that is why I am strict about alignment.
My teaching style involves hands-on correction. You will see me demonstrating the Abhinaya (expressions) myself, ensuring students understand that dance is as much about the face and the eyes as it is about the feet. We follow the systematic syllabus of the Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva University, which means our choreography is always grounded in strong theory.
Our Malad West studio is where this transformation happens. We work on synchronization, ensuring that when a group performs, they move as one. For our senior students, this means mastering rhythm and endurance; for the younger ones, it’s about building confidence and memory. It’s hard work, but when it clicks, bas dil khush ho jaata hai.
