About Beyond Bharatanatyam: A World of Indian Dance
Whether you choose the intricate footwork of Kathak or the powerful agility of Mayurbhanj Chhau, we start with the basics. Technique is everything here, but do not worry if you have never danced before. We break down every movement, from hand gestures to static stances, so you learn the correct way from day one.
At Abhibhava Art Academy, we believe learning a new dance form is about finding a new way to express yourself. Our Malad West studio is designed to be a space where you can explore diverse traditions without the pressure of having to be perfect immediately.
Our Kathak sessions focus on grace and rhythm. With guidance from instructor Harish Sharma, students work on Teentaal, intricate spins, and the theoretical aspects of the dance as per the Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva University syllabus. If you are looking for something high-energy, our Mayurbhanj Chhau workshops are distinct. Led by Ajay Singh Rathore, this martial art form is rooted in Veera Rasa, or the warrior sentiment. You will work on the Chauk stance and combat-inspired movements that build stamina and core strength, regardless of your prior dance experience.
For those drawn to lyrical storytelling, our Mohiniyattam classes emphasize fluid movements and traditional Keralan aesthetics. We also keep it creative with semi-classical sessions that fuse traditional techniques with modern music choices. Because we operate as a community, you will find batches for everyone, from intensive adult courses to foundational training for kids.
