About Professional Pottery Course: Craft to Career
Most pottery courses stop at the glazing stage, but this program is designed to bridge the gap between being a hobbyist and a professional. We spend significant time on the realities that don't make it to Instagram: calculating shrinkage rates, sourcing materials, and understanding the fine margins of pricing your work for retail. By the end of this 8-month intensive, you won't just have a collection—you’ll have a viable business plan and a public exhibition, Ügam, to test your work in the real market.
The Path to Professional Practice
This is not a casual class for those looking for a quick weekend fix. This 1000-hour, 8-month intensive is a vocational commitment designed for those who have decided that clay is their future. We operate in small, intimate cohorts of four, ensuring that the feedback I provide is specific to your evolving form, not a generic demonstration.
What We Cover
- Advanced Craft: We move beyond the basics into complex form-making, glaze chemistry, and atmospheric firing techniques.
- The Business Reality: Artistry only sustains you if you can sell it. We cover production planning, inventory management, branding, and how to price your work so you aren't just making art, but sustaining a livelihood.
- The Graduation (Ügam): The course culminates in a funded, public exhibition. You will learn to curate your own show, handle logistics, and communicate the story behind your pieces to an audience.
Why This Approach?
My background as a teacher combined with my experience running a working studio has shown me that the biggest hurdle for new potters isn't the wheel—it's the transition to independence. I built this curriculum to give you the confidence to manage a studio, troubleshoot your own firings, and maintain a consistent production output. If you are ready to pivot your career or dive deep into the ceramics industry, this program provides the structure, the community, and the professional scaffolding to make that happen at our Indiranagar studio.
