The quiet morning sounds of the studio. This is the peaceful, focused environment where you can connect with the clay and the wheel, with the sun streaming in.
We start with the basics. In our Level 1 course, we set clear goals, like learning to pull an even-walled cylinder from a 500g ball of clay. This foundational skill is the key to all future throwing.

About Potter's Wheel Courses for All Levels
The biggest difference here is that we focus on functional, usable work rather than just showpieces. In our Level 1 foundation course, we set clear KPIs like clay preparation timing and cylinder height because those skills build the specific muscle memory you need to throw a bowl that feels right in your hand. You aren't just watching a demo; you are on the wheel for your entire session, with me nearby to fix those wobbles before they become bad habits.
Our Curriculum: From Centering to Complex Forms
We structure our courses in 6-week cycles, ensuring you move beyond the surface-level novelty of pottery and into the actual craft.
Level 1: Foundation Wheel Throwing This is where it begins. Over 36 hours, we cover the essentials: clay preparation, centering, pulling even-walled cylinders, trimming, and glazing. By the end, you'll walk away with 8-10 finished pieces you can actually put in your kitchen cupboard.
Level 2: Advanced Wheel Progression For those who have mastered the basics, this module is where we get into the technical nitty-gritty. We work with 3kg+ clay weights to throw tall forms like vases and lamps. We also cover lidded forms, gallery fitting, and altering/darting shapes to move away from purely circular designs.
Why Learn With Us?
- No Sharing: You get a dedicated wheel for the entire session. No waiting for your turn means more practice time.
- All-Inclusive: We provide everything—clay, glazes, firing, tools, and even aprons. Just bring your focus.
- Practical Mentorship: I teach with 'jugaad' hacks that simplify difficult movements. If you're struggling with handle proportions or consistent wall thickness, we'll troubleshoot the math and the physics of it until it clicks.
- Small Batches: We cap groups at 5 students. This isn't a factory-style workshop; it is an intimate environment where I can give you direct, honest critiques on your form and function.
Whether you're looking for a new hobby or a serious skill upgrade, this is a space for those who want to get messy, learn properly, and create work that lasts.
Gauri Oak
I started GOAK Ceramics three years ago as a small room with a few wheels, and it has since become a space where we share stories and learn together. My teaching style is hands-on and technical because I want you to understand the 'why' behind every movement, but mostly, I just love seeing that moment when you realize you've truly mastered a form.
