My Pottery Diary: Experiments in Clay
A look into my studio practice, where I trade perfection for curiosity and let the clay tell its own story.
A personal reflection on solitude and creativity. After a busy course, the quiet of the studio was hard, but it slowly gave me back my own voice and allowed deeper work to begin.
This collection, 'The Earth I Carried Home,' is made with foraged earth from my travels. Each everyday piece carries a story, a memory, and a place, inviting you to pause and see the beauty in the ordinary.
Week one of my '100 Explorations' project. This video documents the process of making over 130 test forms to explore colored slips and glazes, chasing understanding over perfection.
Something cracked open inside me, pulling me back to the wheel with an urgency I haven't felt in a long time. This video marks the beginning of my '100 Experiments Project,' a personal deep dive into form and surface.
A candid shot of the studio during my '100 Experiments' project, a time of intense focus and creative energy as I explored new techniques.
Rows of freshly thrown test cups drying in the sun, each one a small canvas for my experiments with slips, oxides, and glazes.
A tour of the collectibles in my studio that ground me and bring me back to myself. Each piece holds a story of people, moments, and inspiration.
Teapots have been my toughest teacher. This video documents my methodical process of researching, making, and refining teapots to master that perfect, drip free pour.
A reflection on my love for Mondays and the poetry of routines. A new week feels like a blank slate, an invitation to begin again with plan and purpose.
Trimming a Neriage vase, a mesmerizing process where the beautiful marbled patterns of colored clay are revealed with each turn of the wheel.
About The Potter's Diary: My Personal Explorations
This isn't about perfectly polished ceramics; it's about the messy, methodical process of discovery. Whether I am testing slip recipes for my '100 Explorations' project or figuring out the fluid dynamics of a drip-free teapot, I document every failure and breakthrough. If you are curious about how a piece goes from a lump of foraged earth to a finished form, you will see exactly how I work through the constraints of the wheel and the kiln right here in my Indiranagar studio.
My approach to pottery is rooted in the belief that the process matters more than the final object. I treat my studio as a lab where questions are more important than answers. When I am not teaching, you will find me deep in the '100 Explorations' project, where I push boundaries by using foraged clay from locations as diverse as Bali, Coorg, and a patch of soil behind a local idli shop.
I believe in transparency, so I share the technical reality of my work: the Neriage marbled forms that require exact timing, the rigorous research behind engineering a drip-free teapot, and the frustration that comes with trimming at the wrong leather-hard stage. These experiments are not just about aesthetics. They are about gaining control over materials like stoneware and earthenware so that I can teach you how to do the same.
Whether you are looking to master hand-thrown pottery, explore Japanese carving techniques like Kurinuki, or understand the chemistry behind glazes, this diary serves as an honest map of what I have learned. I do not promise instant results. I promise an environment where you can engage with the craft, understand the limitations of the medium, and eventually find your own voice in the clay. If you are in Bengaluru and want to move beyond basics, my door is open.
