Yoga is Everywhere: Practicing Beyond the Mat
Your practice does not need to be perfect or confined to a studio. Whether it is balancing in a pool, stretching on a staircase, or finding peace during a trek, I will show you how to integrate yoga into your real life.
I practiced yoga in a saree today at a stunning ranch. This standing split, or Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana, shows that yoga doesn't need perfect clothes, just presence.
Finding my Hanumanasana (splits) in a tree. Practicing in nature adds a playful and grounding element to the challenge of deep flexibility poses.
Bringing my balancing skills to new depths. Here I am practicing Natarajasana (Dancer's Pose) in the pool. Aqua yoga is a great way to challenge balance while being gentle on the joints.
Creating art with every pose. Here is a creative split variation on a staircase, using the environment to explore flexibility in new ways.
Day 2: Pincha progress with extra cuteness. My little one decided to join the practice, adding about 20kg of weight to my forearm stand. It was a joyful test of power, play, and presence.
Day 4 of the inversion challenge. Practicing Pincha Mayurasana at home with my furry supervisor, followed by a headstand variation using blocks to deepen the shoulder opening.
Day 10 of my inversion challenge took me outdoors. I found nature's own aerial yoga setup in the roots of a banyan tree. A playful way to hang upside down.
About this collection
When I teach advanced asanas, I do not demand a pristine studio environment because life rarely gives us one. You might notice me practicing in a saree or on a staircase; these are not just photo moments. They are intentional drills to teach your body how to find stability on uneven surfaces and in daily clothing, which is vital for building real-world strength that holds up outside the classroom.
Yoga is not something you do only when the lighting is perfect or when you have the right gear. It is about understanding the mechanics of your own body. Many students come to me thinking they need to be flexible to start, but that is a myth. My approach in the Yog Yatra Mastery course and my live cohorts is to demystify complex movements like handstands or splits by breaking them down into anatomy-based drills.
We focus on the 'how' and 'why' of joint movement, muscle engagement, and safe progression. Whether we are practicing on a trek in Bangalore or refining alignment in a live Zoom session, the goal remains the same: to build a practice that is sustainable. You will learn the Sanskrit names and the bio-mechanics behind them, but more importantly, you will learn how to show up for yourself.
My classes include strict alignment corrections—yes, I will call out your mistakes—because I want you to progress safely without injury. If you are ready to stop chasing fancy poses for social media and start building a foundation that respects your body's limits, then this is the space for you. We focus on consistent progress, not instant perfection.
Shashi Prabha Dwivedi
I am Shashi. I have traded the 'perfect' studio life for a practice that fits my actual day, whether I am chasing my two dogs or trekking the outskirts of Bangalore. My classes are not about holding a pose for a photo; they are about understanding your muscles so you can practice anywhere, safely and confidently.
