Safe Yoga Alignment with Props & Support
Not flexible yet? No problem. In my studio, we use blocks, ropes, and belts to help you ease into poses safely. My goal is to make sure you find alignment and progress without injury.
Perfecting the pose means perfecting your practice. I provide hands-on corrections, like this one for Shashankasana, to ensure everyone practices safely and gets the most benefit from each asana, regardless of their experience level.
Twist, stretch, and align. Using a stick for spinal twists enhances flexibility, eases back pain, and boosts digestion.
This video demonstrates how we use wall ropes for deep back and hamstring opening stretches, which are great for relieving stiffness.
An exercise for shoulder opening and increasing upper back flexibility using a yoga block against the wall. This is great for releasing tension.

A tutorial on Ardhapadma Paschimottanasana, where I show how to use a belt to assist in binding and deepening the forward fold.
Feeling stressed? Let's do some yoga. This clip shows students using blocks to support them in a deep forward stretch.

About Props for Progress & Safe Alignment
Using props isn’t about making yoga 'easier'—it’s about making it safer. When you use a yoga block under your hand for a Triangle Pose or a wall rope for spinal traction, you aren't straining your muscles, you are learning how they should move. I always tell my students: if you can’t breathe comfortably in an asana, back off a little and use a prop. Proper alignment is where the real healing happens.
Why Props Changed My Practice
Many students walk into my Ramesh Nagar studio thinking they need to touch their toes on day one. I tell them, 'Yoga is not about the end pose; it is about the journey inside.' This is where props come in.
The Role of Alignment
Whether it is Ardhapadma Paschimottanasana or a simple forward fold, improper alignment is the fastest way to get an injury. I integrate tools into my sessions to fix this:
- Wall Ropes (Yoga Kurunta): I use these to provide spinal traction. It’s a game-changer for anyone dealing with lower back stiffness or sciatica. It decompresses the spine in a way gravity alone cannot.
- Yoga Blocks & Belts: These act as an extension of your arms. If your hamstrings are tight, a belt helps you bind safely without hunching your back. If your hand doesn’t reach the floor, a block brings the floor to you.
- Yoga Wheels: Perfect for opening up the chest and thoracic spine, which often gets stiff from long hours of desk work.
Safety First
My teaching approach is very hands-on. I don't just ask you to perform; I correct you. You will often see me using sticks to help students maintain a straight spine during twists. If you are struggling with a specific pose, I will show you the modification first. We practice to heal, not to compete. So, whether you are dealing with chronic back pain or just want to improve your posture, we have a way to make the practice work for your body.
