Ashtanga Mysore Yoga Classes
A traditional path of discipline and devotion, where you learn to move with your own breath. I guide you through the sequence at your own pace, helping you build a practice that is steady, comfortable, and uniquely yours.
Ashtanga is a guru-parampara tradition, where you must practice before you teach. This is what I learned from my own teacher: the importance of discipline, devotion, and deep inner focus with every breath.
No matter how many styles I explore, rolling out my sadhana mat for Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa feels like coming home. The finishing series is my bridge from movement to stillness, grounding my body and calming my mind for meditation.
Through steady practice, the mind becomes calm. A yogi's true strength lies not in muscle, but in stillness. Here, we practice headstands together, finding that supreme peace the Bhagavad Gita speaks of.
For Ashtangis, the mat reflects truth. Every breath burns brighter, and every exhale softens the ego. This is a glimpse into our shared practice, finding strength and focus together under the sun.
After a long time, I felt my body wanting to flow with the energy of the intermediate Ashtanga series. This practice is a powerful way to connect with your inner strength and discipline.
Our Saturday Mysore-style led class is a time for quiet, individual practice. Since direct guidance from a guru is rare, we support each other, making adjustments and enhancing our practice together.
The standing poses in Mysore Ashtanga, like Trikonasana and Prasarita Padottanasana, do more than build strength. They massage the internal organs, enhancing their function and bringing balance to the body.
I remember my first days as a yoga student in Bangalore, where I lost my heart to the city's tranquil pulse. Now, as a teacher, I search for that feeling in every asana, a journey back to where it all began.
Bakasana, or Crane Pose, is an arm-balancing pose that strengthens the arms and wrists while improving overall body balance. It is a beautiful expression of focus and strength from the Ashtanga practice.
About Mysore & Ashtanga Practice
Mysore style is not a follow-the-leader class where I call out poses for everyone to match. You move through the sequence at your own pace while I observe, provide hands-on adjustments, and help you refine your breath. It is a traditional self-practice that I guide to ensure you are safe and steady as you progress to the next level.
In our Mysore sessions, the goal is to build a practice you can take with you anywhere. Unlike Vinyasa classes where the rhythm is set by the group, here you follow the traditional Ashtanga lineage. You learn the sequence, from the Sun Salutations to the standing poses and the finishing series, until it becomes muscle memory.
My role is to be your anchor. I watch your alignment, remind you of your drishti, or gaze point, and use gentle adjustments to help you find depth in postures without forcing them. This is how we uphold the Sthira Sukham Āsanam principle, finding a pose that is both steady and comfortable.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, I guide you step by step. We start small, adding one posture at a time. This approach respects your body's limits and ensures you develop strength from the inside out, rather than rushing to achieve the perfect look of a pose. If you are joining online, I offer the same focus via high-definition video, providing detailed verbal cues and corrections. If you are in Dubai, we can work in person where I can guide you through adjustments.
