Advanced Asanas: Go Deeper, Get Stronger
Thinking headstands or backbends are impossible? We break down complex poses using props like wheels and ropes to help you build strength safely. No ego, just technique.
Are you ready to take your practice to the next level? In my advanced yoga batch, we use props like Iyengar ropes to safely explore challenging asanas like backbends and handstands. I will guide you step by step to help you achieve your goals.
Using the wall and ropes, inspired by Iyengar yoga, is a game-changer for inversions. This technique provides support, helps with alignment, and allows you to hold the pose longer to experience the full benefits of decompressing the spine.
If you want to stay young, with glowing skin and healthy hair, inverted postures are your answer. Many people find them difficult, but with the help of the wall, anyone can perform variations of Halasana (Plow Pose) and Sirsasana (Headstand) to reap these amazing benefits.
It's such a proud moment for me to see my students doing an independent headstand with grace and control. This shows their dedication and the progress they've made by focusing on core strength and balance. Well done!
Believing you can't do a headstand is one of the biggest myths. With the right guidance and support, anyone can learn. Here, I am assisting my students to build confidence and find their balance, ensuring they feel safe and empowered throughout their inversion journey.
Mastering the standing Chakrasana (Wheel Pose) requires a combination of flexibility, strength, and technique. I provide personal attention to each student, using props like belts to help them open their shoulders and spine safely.
Learning backbends is a journey of opening the heart chakra. We use props like the wall and yoga belts to assist in deepening the stretch safely. This method helps you build confidence and gradually increase your spinal flexibility.
This is a deep backbend, and while it looks challenging, it's completely worth it. Backbends release fear, open the heart chakra, and improve back strength. Here, we use the wall to support the pose and work on alignment.
Today's backbend challenge involved using yoga blocks to deepen the pose and work on spinal extension. Props are fantastic tools to help you understand the mechanics of a pose and progress safely in your practice.
The only impossible journey is the one you never start. Using a yoga wheel is an excellent way to open up the back and shoulders, making challenging poses like this backbend more accessible. It’s all about trying and trusting the process.
About Advanced Asanas: Go Deeper, Get Stronger
The secret isn't just flexibility—it's the right setup. In our advanced batches, we use Iyengar-style ropes, yoga wheels, and wall support to break down complex inversions and deep backbends into manageable steps. Whether you're working on your first handstand or deepening your Chakrasana, you'll learn how to align your body safely without forcing it.
Many people think advanced asanas are only for the flexible or the young. That is a myth I love to bust. At our Paschim Vihar studio, advanced practice is really about biomechanics and mindful support. We don't just 'do' poses; we understand the anatomy behind them.
Using props isn't a shortcut; it's a way to unlock full range of motion safely. We use high-density wheels to support the spine in backbends, Iyengar ropes to decompress for inversions like Sirsasana, and belts to align the shoulders. My batches are capped at 15 students to ensure that when you're upside down or in a deep wheel, you have the personal spotting and adjustment you need.
If you’re coming from a generic fitness background, you might find this detail refreshing. We focus on the prep work—core engagement, shoulder stability, and breath control—so that when you finally hold the pose, you do it with control and grace, not strain. Whether you're looking to master the Peacock Pose (Mayurasana) or finally find stability in a headstand, we build the foundation together.

I’m Madhulika, and I traded my CA career for the yoga mat eight years ago. I don't believe in perfect poses—I believe in finding connection and strength in our own bodies. Come join our little family in Paschim Vihar, where we work hard, use props to stay safe, and have a lot of fun on the mat.
