Real yoga begins where the poses end. In my Mysore shala, we go deeper—into the science of anatomy, the wisdom of ancient philosophy, and the life-changing power of breathwork.

Our Pranayama TTC is about understanding the science behind the breath. Here, Dr. Divya invites you to explore how pranayama affects the vayus, koshas, and deeper levels of our being.

About Beyond the Mat: Philosophy, Anatomy & Breathwork

When we study anatomy in my shala, we do not just memorize muscle names. We look at your specific range of motion in poses like Bhujangasana and see how your breath can actually change the shape. It is about learning to teach safely, knowing exactly when to use a strap or block, so your students feel empowered rather than pushed.

Many students come to Mysore wanting to master the perfect handstand or backbend, but they quickly realize that the real teaching happens in the quiet moments between the movements. My philosophy, anatomy, and breathwork modules are designed to bridge the gap between being a practitioner and becoming a guide.

The Science of Breath

Pranayama is not just a breathing exercise. In our modules, we explore the vayus (energy currents) and how different techniques like Bhramari (the Bumblebee Breath) interact with the nervous system. You will learn to teach breathwork as a foundational practice that students can carry off the mat. We examine the physiology of respiration—how to engage the diaphragm correctly and how to use the breath to calm the mind during intense practice.

Anatomy with Purpose

We demystify anatomy by making it relevant. You will learn to read bodies, understand common injury patterns, and offer effective adjustments. Whether it is using a chair to modify a pose for a student with limited mobility or using a wheel to open the spine, you will leave with a toolbox of variations.

The Mysore Environment

Studying in Gokulam offers a unique immersion. Outside of the shala, you are surrounded by a community that lives and breathes yoga. We keep our groups small, which means you get direct feedback on your sequencing and voice modulation. This is not about lecture halls; it is about learning in the same space where we practice daily.

If you are ready to stop chasing shapes and start understanding the roots of your practice, I invite you to join us.

I am B. Srinatha. I have spent over 30 years on the mat, and these days, I am most happy watching students go from learning a posture to understanding the philosophy behind it. If you are coming to my shala in Gokulam, expect honest conversations, authentic training, and a lot of tea.
