Accessible Yoga with Props in Andheri
If you think you aren't flexible enough for yoga, you are exactly who I work with. We use blocks, chairs, and ropes to meet your body where it is right now.
Surrendering to your Yogasadhana can feel like heaven on earth. Here, I use a yoga wheel to support a deep backbend, allowing me to let go and trust in the process, even when it's difficult.
Learn yoga with props to deepen your practice. This video shows students using the wall for a supported downward dog variation and practicing other poses on the mat, demonstrating the versatility of Iyengar-inspired techniques.
In this video, I explain why we use props in Yogasadhana. For beginners or anyone with limited flexibility, props like blocks are essential for achieving the final position without strain and experiencing the full benefits of the asana.
This tutorial shows exactly how a block can help you in Trikonasana (Triangle Pose). If your hand doesn't reach the floor, a block provides the support needed to maintain alignment and enjoy the stretch.
About Accessible Yoga for Every Body: Practice with Props
You don't need a flexible body to start practicing. In my Andheri studio, we use Iyengar-style props like blocks, chairs, and wall ropes to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. These tools ensure your alignment is correct and protect your joints, allowing you to hold poses longer and actually feel the therapeutic shift without any unnecessary strain.
Why Props Are Essential
Many people think yoga is only for the naturally flexible. That is a myth I challenge every day. My sessions are designed for real bodies—those dealing with stiffness, back pain, or the natural changes that come with age, pregnancy, or hormonal health. By using props, we modify the asana to fit you, rather than forcing you to fit the asana.
The Iyengar Methodology
I rely on the Iyengar tradition of using support. When you use a wooden block in Trikonasana, you aren't 'cheating.' You are bringing the floor to your hand so you can open your chest and align your spine properly. When we use wall ropes, we can safely work on deep stretches and inversions that would otherwise be impossible for a beginner. This allows for deep tissue release and therapeutic benefits, especially for those recovering from injuries or managing chronic conditions like diabetes or PCOD.
What You Will Experience
- Safety First: Props prevent injury and help you understand how your body moves.
- Longer Holds: With physical support, you can sustain a pose long enough to actually build strength and endurance.
- Correct Alignment: You learn the technique properly from day one, which is vital for long-term health.
Whether you are visiting my Andheri West studio or joining a group session, my focus is the same: providing the right environment for you to grow. If you have been hesitant to join a class because you feel 'stiff' or 'out of shape,' this is the place to start. We will go at your pace, using these tools to build your foundation, one breath at a time.
