Yoga for Every Body: Props & Modifications
Yoga is a practice, not a performance. If you have stiff joints, past injuries, or are just starting, our prop-supported classes make every asana accessible, safe, and deeply rewarding.
We love to blend yoga with strength training. Here, our students use chairs for stability while performing shoulder presses with dumbbells, building functional strength.
It's never too late to return to your practice. This video shows how we use chairs to support students in lunges and side stretches, making the return to the mat gentle and encouraging.
Props help us explore advanced poses safely. Watch our instructors assist students in supported inversions and deep stretches using chairs and their guidance.
Chair yoga is a fantastic way to practice. This reel demonstrates how we use chairs for backbends, forward folds, and spinal twists, making yoga accessible to all.
A teacher's responsibility is to give the right knowledge for each unique body. This video shows a class using chairs to modify poses, ensuring the practice is a prayer, not a punishment.
Using a chair and block to modify Parighasana (Gate Pose). This adaptation allows the student to experience the side body stretch without straining the knee or hip.
Another student explores Gate Pose with props, demonstrating how we tailor the practice to individual needs and flexibility levels.
About Yoga for Every Body: Props & Modifications
When you walk into our Andheri West shala, you won’t see us forcing students into poses they aren't ready for. Instead, we use simple props—like sturdy chairs for stability or blocks for extra reach—to ensure your practice remains safe and effective. It is about meeting your body where it is today, allowing you to breathe and grow, regardless of your current flexibility level or past injuries.
Your Practice, Your Pace
We believe that a rigid approach to yoga is a barrier to entry. Our sessions are built on the philosophy that practice should be a prayer, not a punishment. Whether you are a total beginner, a senior citizen, or someone working through physical limitations, our instructors are trained to adjust the practice to your body, not the other way around.
How We Use Props
We integrate props like chairs, straps, wooden blocks, and yoga wheels into our Hatha and Ashtanga Vinyasa flows. These aren't just for beginners; they are intelligent tools to help you deepen your alignment:
- Chairs: Used for support during balancing poses and deep stretches, making them ideal for those who struggle with floor-based movements.
- Blocks: Bring the floor closer to you, reducing strain on your spine and hamstrings.
- Straps: Help extend your reach in forward folds and backbends without forcing the joint.
Building Consistency Through Swadhyay
Yoga is a journey of Swadhyay, or self-study. By using these modifications, you remove the physical stress that leads to frustration and quitting. Instead, you focus on the breath and the internal experience. This sustainable approach helps you build the discipline to show up on the mat daily, eventually finding the strength and flexibility that comes with time. Our Andheri West studio is equipped with the full inventory of props needed to support this journey, and our classes include hands-on adjustments to ensure you are moving correctly and safely.
