Pranayama and Breathwork Classes in Delhi
Learn to breathe right. From clearing Delhi’s pollution to finding calm in your daily routine, discover how simple pranayama can change your health.
Many people living in cities worry about pollution and its effect on their lungs. Bhastrika pranayama is a powerful breathing exercise that helps cleanse the respiratory system and increase oxygen levels. Just two minutes a day can make a significant difference in your lung health and overall vitality.
Traveling in the mountains can be challenging due to lower oxygen levels. I teach Bhastrika pranayama as a way to strengthen your lungs and adapt to high altitudes. Practicing this before and during your trip can help prevent breathlessness and height sickness.
Did you know there is a right and a wrong way to breathe? In this video, I explain the crucial difference between nose breathing and mouth breathing. Your nose is a natural filter that protects your lungs, and learning to breathe correctly is the first step to better health.
This is Udyan Bandha, an abdominal lock that is an important practice in Hatha yoga. It tones the digestive organs, strengthens the core, and directs energy upward. I guide students through this advanced technique safely to deepen their pranayama and asana practice.
About Pranayama: Master Your Breath
Most of us breathe shallowly through our mouths without realizing it, which keeps our stress levels high and lungs vulnerable. My pranayama sessions focus on retraining your body to breathe through your nose, effectively using your natural filters to combat city pollution and anxiety. It is not about intense physical exertion, it is about shifting your autonomic nervous system from 'fight or flight' to 'rest and digest' through controlled, rhythmic airflow.
Why Breath is Your Biggest Ally
I often tell my students: 'Jab saans shaant, toh mann bhi shaant' (when the breath is calm, the mind follows). We live in a city where air quality is a constant struggle, and the fast-paced nature of work leaves us perpetually anxious. My approach to pranayama is designed to handle both.
Practical Applications
- Fighting Urban Pollution: We use techniques like Bhastrika to cleanse the respiratory system. It acts as a natural scrub for your lungs, helping you counteract the dust and pollutants we encounter daily in Delhi.
- Preparing for the Mountains: Many people struggle with altitude sickness. I teach specific rhythm-based breathing you can start weeks before your trip to increase lung capacity and avoid breathlessness at high altitudes.
- The Nose vs. Mouth Habit: One of the most common issues I see is mouth breathing. It dries out your throat, weakens jaw muscles, and bypasses your body's natural filtration system. In my sessions, we focus on switching back to nasal breathing, which warms and filters the air before it reaches your lungs.
How We Practice
This is not a one-size-fits-all lecture. Whether you are a total beginner or an experienced practitioner, I guide you through tools that fit your reality:
- Anapana: Simple breath observation to settle a restless mind.
- Kapalbhati & Bhastrika: Active techniques to energize the system and boost oxygen levels.
- Tibetan Singing Bowls: We often integrate 10 minutes of sound healing to deepen the state of calm after breathwork.
If you are dealing with chronic stress or just want to feel more vibrant, come in for a session at my Vikaspuri studio. We focus on what your body actually needs today, not what a textbook says.
