Pranayama and Meditation Classes for Mental Calm
True health is the balance of breath and mind. I teach traditional pranayama and meditation to help you manage daily stress, anxiety, and find lasting inner peace.
Pranayama gives a new dimension to our life force. I practice Anulom Vilom by the Ganga river, demonstrating how breathwork detoxifies not just the body, but also the mind and our energies.
On International Yoga Day, we gathered for an outdoor session of pranayama. Here, I am guiding the class through Nadi Shodhana, or alternate nostril breathing.
Three students are seen here in a state of deep meditation. Their calm expressions show the peace that comes from focusing inward.
A group of students in my class, sitting in prayer or meditation. This practice of devotion and discipline is a key part of our advanced yoga sessions.

A close-up of a student in meditation, with her eyes closed and a serene expression. This is the goal of our practice, to find stillness within.
Two students, one from India and one from abroad, meditate side-by-side. Yoga is a universal language that connects us all.
Students of all ages and backgrounds come together to practice meditation in my class. It is a time for collective stillness and introspection.
Two students sit in prayer pose, their eyes closed in meditation. This practice helps to bring balance to the body and mind.
Students stand in Anjali Mudra (prayer pose) at the beginning of a class, centering themselves before we begin our asana practice.
About Pranayama & Meditation for Mental Calm
You don't need years to find calm; you need consistency. In my sessions, we don't just sit and close our eyes. We use Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhati to detoxify the mind, and simple restorative poses to offload the day’s stress. If your sleep is disturbed or you feel constant anxiety, this practice is designed to give you a tool to switch off that mental noise.
Understanding Your Breath
I often say, 'Jo shwaas par niyantran pa lega, wo jeevan par niyantran pa lega' (He who controls his breath, controls his life). Most people live with shallow, rapid breathing, which keeps the nervous system in a state of 'fight or flight.' My pranayama sessions are designed to reverse this. We use specific techniques like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain, creating immediate mental clarity.
My Approach to Meditation
Meditation is not about escaping reality; it is about facing yourself with stillness. In my classes, we move from physical posture into silence. Whether you are struggling with insomnia, work-related anxiety, or general restlessness, we use a step-by-step approach.
- Restorative Poses: We use props like bolsters and straps to physically open the body, allowing you to stay in meditation longer without physical pain.
- Breath-Body Connection: We prepare the body with micro-movements before entering stillness.
- Consistency: This is not a magic fix. I encourage students to practice regularly to see a genuine shift in their temperament.
