Tabla Workshops, Music Lectures & Masterclasses
Sharing the rhythms of the tabla is a journey I cherish. Whether it is a technical masterclass, a lecture demonstration, or judging young talent, I love demystifying Indian classical percussion for students and music lovers.
It was a pleasure to give a guest lecture at New York University (NYU). I had a great time introducing the magic of tabla and Indian rhythm to the students pursuing their master's in percussion.
On stage at the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) for judging duties at their annual festival. It's inspiring to see the talent and enthusiasm of young musicians.
An impromptu performance for the students at COEP after the judging was over. Music is all about sharing, and I couldn't resist playing a bit.
Posing with the organizers and fellow judges at the COEP festival. These events are a great platform for budding artists.
Jamming with a fellow judge on guitar at the college fest. It's always fun to connect with other musicians from different genres.

Receiving a token of appreciation from the faculty at COEP. I am always happy to contribute to the music community in any way I can.
Applauding a student winner at the college festival. Encouraging young talent is a responsibility I hold dear.

About The Educator: Workshops & Lectures
When I conduct workshops, I do not just talk about theory. We focus on the 'bols'—the language of the tabla—and how to apply traditional rhythms to modern musical contexts. Whether you are a conservatory student or a college student at a festival, I tailor the session so you walk away with practical techniques you can practice immediately, rather than just abstract knowledge.
I believe that the tabla is a language first, and a percussion instrument second. My approach to teaching is built on years of learning from maestros and my own experiences performing across India and abroad. Whether I am presenting a formal lecture-demonstration at a university or judging a rhythmic competition, my goal remains the same: to bridge the gap between classical complexity and the listener's ear.
What I Bring to Your Institution
- Lecture-Demonstrations: I break down the mathematics of beat cycles and the historical context of Lucknow and Farrukhabad gharanas. It is interactive, keeping the audience engaged rather than just listening.
- Practical Masterclasses: Designed for intermediate to advanced students, these sessions focus on hand technique, posture, and the subtle nuances of 'na' and 'ta'.
- Festival Judging: I enjoy identifying and encouraging young talent. I provide constructive feedback that helps budding musicians refine their craft.
I have been lucky enough to share this journey at places like NYU, where I introduced students to the magic of Indian rhythm, and at college fests like COEP. If you are looking to bring some authentic Indian percussion depth to your music program, workshop series, or cultural event, let us talk about how we can structure the session to fit your audience.
