Modern-Traditional Interior Design for Vishu Home
A 1,950 sq ft apartment where contemporary luxury meets deep-rooted Indian tradition, designed for seamless living.
The heart of Vishu Home, this living and dining area showcases a bold mix of colors and textures. The bright red arched console provides a vibrant focal point against a backdrop of serene whites and cool blues.
This video captures the transformation and essence of the Vishu Home. It highlights the journey from concept to the final, elegant space, showing the interplay of the slate stone wall, the bright dining area, and the comfortable living room.
A key feature of the living room is the rugged, grey slate tile wall, which provides a dramatic and textured backdrop for the television. This element adds a natural, earthy feel that contrasts beautifully with the polished floors.
A comfortable and stylish living area setup, featuring a soft blue sofa and a light-toned armchair. The jute rug adds warmth and texture, grounding the space and making it feel homely and calm.
The dining area is a study in contemporary elegance, with sculptural blue velvet chairs surrounding a monolithic white table. The custom textured wall and brass accents add layers of sophistication and visual interest.
A wider view of the open-plan living and dining space, demonstrating how different zones are defined yet connected. The track lighting and clean ceiling lines contribute to the modern, uncluttered aesthetic.
A glimpse from the living area towards the serene mandir space in the background. This view shows our approach to creating visual connections and flow between different functional and spiritual zones within a home.
The mandir is designed as a tranquil, sacred corner. The clean white arched niche, warm wood drawers for storage, and traditional brass lamps create a space for daily divinity that is both modern and reverent.
A detailed look at the beautifully styled mandir, adorned with fresh marigolds. This space is a testament to our ability to design for modern Indian living, respecting tradition while embracing contemporary design.
This outdoor bar area features the same slate stone wall as the interior, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The minimalist high chairs and potted plants make it a perfect spot for relaxation.
About Project: Vishu Home (A Modern-Traditional Blend)
Balancing a modern aesthetic with the sanctity of a traditional home required a delicate hand. For Vishu Home, we integrated a dedicated mandir space near the entrance, using clean white arches and warm wood to ensure it feels like a spiritual sanctuary rather than just an addition, allowing daily divinity to coexist with the apartment's open-plan layout.
The design narrative for this 1,950 sq ft space focuses on organic luxury, a concept that prioritizes comfort and warmth without sacrificing sophistication. We moved away from stark minimalism, instead opting for rich, tactile materials that ground the home. The living room is anchored by a rugged, grey slate stone wall, which serves as a dramatic, earthy counterpoint to the polished floors and bright, natural light flooding the dining area.
To achieve the balance between modern functionality and traditional Indian values, we selected a color palette that brings energy to the space. Deep blues and vibrant reds appear as deliberate accents, while the neutral white and beige backdrop keeps the environment calm. The dining area, featuring a monolithic table and velvet-upholstered chairs, acts as the heart of the home, designed for both daily family meals and entertaining.
A key challenge was ensuring the home felt lived-in rather than like a showroom. We used jute rugs, warm teak woodwork, and custom furniture to create a sense of softness. The mandir is perhaps the most significant integration—a peaceful, modern corner that respects the client’s spiritual connection without interrupting the home’s contemporary flow. This project was a collaboration with S.ALT Atelier, proving that when designers share a vision for timelessness, the result is a home that feels like it has been waiting for the client for years.
