Villa 17 shows how warm minimalism can feel grounded and alive. It balances clean modern lines with earthy materials like Kota stone and teak, designed specifically for a family home in Bangalore.

The clean, contemporary facade of Villa 17 is softened by a green ledge of creepers and warm exterior lighting, creating a welcoming first impression.

The entrance is designed as a tranquil transition space, with lush planters and a stone pathway leading to the main door.

The foyer sets the tone for the home with handcrafted cement tiles, a custom console in green and wood, and vintage-inspired lighting.

This short video provides a teaser of Villa 17's ground floor, showcasing the flow from the entrance through the open-plan living spaces.

The open-plan living area is defined by warm minimalism, featuring a comfortable grey sectional, a mustard accent chair, and handmade cement tile inlays in the floor.

Wooden arches elegantly frame the transitions between the living room, dining area, and staircase, creating a cohesive and flowing space.

A view from the living room looking towards the staircase, with a large mirror reflecting the space and enhancing the sense of openness.

The dining area is anchored by a solid wood table and bench, situated between the open kitchen and a view of the powder room's textured tile wall.

A soft archway provides a beautiful view from the dining room into the mint-green kitchen, connecting the two spaces visually.

The dining space is connected to the outdoors through large sliding glass doors, flooding the area with natural light.

About Villa 17: Modern Minimalism with a Warm Soul

We did not just aim for empty space here. The goal with Villa 17 was to layer textures that felt good to touch. You will notice the diamond-patterned Kota stone flooring that keeps the house naturally cool, paired with custom teak woodwork that brings in warmth. If you look at the master bedroom and living area transitions, we used soft wooden arches instead of sharp corners. This is not just about the look. It is about how the light hits these materials during the day and how the open layout makes a standard home feel like a private, breathing space.

Beyond the Minimalist Label

Modern minimalism in India often gets mistaken for being cold or purely white. At Villa 17, we took a different path. It is warm, grounded, and deeply personal. We focused on the soul of the materials. By using natural finishes like IPS flooring and teak, we created a home that welcomes you the moment you step in.

Materiality that Works

The material choice was critical. We used Kota stone, a staple in traditional Indian architecture, but laid it in a diamond pattern to give it a modern geometric edge. This stone is not just aesthetic, it is functional. It keeps the temperature inside comfortable, which is essential for Bangalore weather. We paired this with custom carpentry using teak wood, avoiding mass-produced laminates wherever possible.

Functional Flow

The house uses an open-plan concept but avoids the empty hallway feel. We used soft wooden arches to define the transition between the living and dining areas. It separates the spaces visually without closing them off, keeping the flow airy. Even the small details, like the boat-shaped bookshelf in the master bedroom or the mint-green kitchen, were planned to bring personality into the design.
