My Approach
Tabla is more than just rhythm for me. After nearly thirty years, I’ve realised the best music happens when everyone on stage feels like a team, not just a backing act. I don’t just keep time - I try to really listen, respond, and help the main artist shine. It’s all about that musical conversation and the connection with the audience.
What I Bring
- I offer precise, sensitive accompaniment for all sorts of Hindustani classical accompaniment - both vocal and instrumental. If you sing Khayal or play sitar, sarod, or sarangi, I’m quick to adapt to your style and the feel of the raga.
- Love playing for ghazal and thumri. These need a softer touch, and I bring a lot of care to support the poetry and emotion in tabla for ghazal performances.
- I work well with both seasoned pros and up-and-coming artists. Past collaborations include names like Ustad Rafique Khan Saheb, Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, Sahana Banerjee, and many more.

Namaskara! I’m Trilochan Kampli, tabla is my world. Been at it for 29 years, played everywhere from big auditoriums to tiny rooms. But honestly? Those small baithaks, where you can just sit, chat, play, laugh with folks – that’s where the real heart of music is. My dad, Shri K.G. Somsekhar, taught me that music is a blessing, something to share. Every show, every tribute, it’s all about connecting and keeping that legacy alive.
